Often, I contemplate how I got to where I am today. I know how much work I have put in, the sacrifices made, and the many lessons I have learned. I will never feel like an expert in what I do, but I am grateful for every opportunity I get to grow.

This summer, I added the Utah Ophthalmology Society! This a new endeavor that will challenge me and force me to think differently.

Along with this new opportunity, I am looking to hire another assistant. If you know anyone with association management experience, please connect me with them.

This day was pretty special. When you step out of your day to day role to just spend time with your members.

Utah Assisted Living Association provided an ice cream social for a member community. I loved every moment of laughing and getting to know the residents and staff.

I hope more days will be like this day.

Traveled to Washington DC for a quick weekend trip the APTA Leadership Congress. I really enjoyed this event! Every moment provided useful tools in strategic planning, engaging with early career professionals, conference planning, and more!

On July 24th I presented at the Association Leadership Meeting for the National Association of Social Workers on "Building a Board of Inspired Volunteers." As nervous as I am to speak in front of large groups, the conversation we had we uplifting and inspiring for everyone involved. I learned so much from others and am honored to have participated.

When an annual conference ends up feeling like a party with all your friends. This year was full of fun moments and laughter. From trying to get the star wars costumes on, to table decorations, the prizes, and the smiles on everyones faces at the end of the day.

UALA membership meeting today in St. George! Trying to reach rural areas of the state can be challenging. We are lucky to have a great location like St. George to connect with a few of those areas!

What. A. Morning.

Running between senate and house buildings in the pouring rain has been an adventure.

We were able to meet with Senator Romney, Congressman Owens, and Congressman Curtis today to talk about relief funds, staffing shortages and reimbursement in assisted living.

I have to say, every single person was so nice. From the Senator and Congressman themselves to their staff, everyone was so kind and genuinely listened to the message we were sharing. It was really a pleasure getting to know them all.

Packing up for another conference tomorrow. This one is unique because it’s essentially a “kick-off” for them since they haven’t held a conference before. I am definitely excited to see how it turns out!

Advocacy is - Speaking against a bill even when you know it will pass, hoping one person will hear you and it will be moved to the floor for further debate. Today we advocated and we got the floor time we hoped for!

Last night, we brought the Utah group together here in San Antonio! It was a great way to end the conference for me and again, I haven’t said it enough, reminds me how much they are like family. 7 years in with them and I am so grateful for every moment!

Arrived in San Antonio, Texas last night and what a beautiful city!

This isn’t one I’d have thought to visit, so I am excited to explore.

Traveling here, I have seen so many people that I know. The leadership for APTA Utah was on the plane so I stood up to wave and the whole plane waved at me. They said it’s because they all know me, after almost 7 years with this group they are really family.

Excited for an in person CSM this week and being with this group who I have missed!

It is always fun to get an interview request from the news and have to rush to find someone to participate (I hate being on the news so I usually pass the opportunity to someone else). The UALA President-Elect did a great job. I love the great people that I work with!

6 years of working on the fall conference. I can’t explain how grateful and blessed I am to have this group of physical therapists and physical therapist assistants in my life. I cry when their board term ends and I’m overwhelmed with pride when they are honored with an award. 6 years in and they are my family.

Top story on KSL.com today. We have been sharing the financial burden on assisted living for several months. We are excited to see it gaining some attention and traction. We hope to temporarily provide financial relief to support assisted living providers in caring for seniors.

Advocacy!
Sharing your voice now so we can protect tomorrow. Just in the last couple weeks we have advocated for:
- More funding for a group highly affected by COVID.
- The opportunity and ability to continue to practice within our scope and training.
- Protection of of our credential and the importance of the education and training that it requires.
- Licensing, legislation, regulation, practice challenges, access, payment, government support, and collaboration on social and community issues are only a few of the advocacy efforts that are important to be engaged in and monitoring often.

I am writing this down.
The story of Kaevine.
I am in awe.

I have been managing associations off and on for over 10 years. In May 2015, one week after having Jack, I interviewed for the Executive Director position at the Utah Physical Therapy Association. That moment would change everything for me. It put me on a completely unexpected path in unknown territory. The connections and relationships from the PT group are invaluable. These are now my family, my closest friends. I could never see myself moving on. But, I knew for a while that I wanted to grow and manage several associations, timing was never right. After encouragement from those I love, I became brave. I had the courage and decided to be daring. I began the process of building a business.

I became focused on “growth.” This was the foundation. This is Kaevine. A vine grows in all directions, it grows with support, and it grows with other vines. I wanted vine in the name. Because I wanted a personal touch, something to connect me, I added the Kae (Katie) at the beginning. From there the logo, brand, and website were built.

Then COVID hit.

Last Fall I started to work for the Utah Assisted Living Association. One of my goals is to work with people who are passionate about what they do, and this group had so much love and care for their profession. Then, the past few months Kaevine took a backseat and my focus was on these two organizations.

Once we achieved a comfortable norm, I made small movements with Kaevine. I’ve always wanted a slow, organic, natural growth for Kaevine.

Last week I received news that I will be working with the National Association of Social Workers - Utah Chapter. I am elated and stunned. This is happening. I couldn’t be more excited and nervous.

It’s time to add support staff, office space, and focus on reaching a personal goal of becoming a Certified Association Executive. Then look to enter a Masters program in Non-Profit Management.

A lot of people have been encouraging and supportive in moments I doubted myself. Thank you all for giving me those small nudges. I am genuinely grateful and blessed for where I am and how I got here, it’s just the beginning.
