We were delighted to welcome over 750 guests over the 4 days of sunshine, rain and wind. The incredible Duchy Opera cast and Orchestra delivered whatever the weather and it was great to see such great feedback and response from every audience.

Both Ugo, The Cornish Italian, and Rupert from Philleigh Way delivered delicious meals, and we are so grateful to all our suppliers and sponsors for making the event possible. But it is you, our audience, to whom we owe the greatest debt. Your continued support and attendance is critical to keeping the vision of PHO alive, and I am delighted that it seems to be growing stronger every year.

Watch this space for news of next year's Summer production, Die Fledermaus, a rumbustious drunken tale of the shenanigans at a Viennese costume ball. You will love it! Watch out for early-bird tickets before Christmas!
Warm wishes and much love,
Robert and Sam

Well there we go!! I can’t believe it’s the final night of Duchy Opera and Park House Opera run of Cavalleria Rusticana! Thank you to everyone who made this run so wonderful, and a special thanks to my two sopranos Lisa Moffat, Soprano and Rebecca Dale! Till the next time!!

It’s been a ball! Can’t believe tonight is the last night, here I am praying for no more rain! (Actually not, begging for substantial damages more like 🤣)
Yesterday the audience, orchestra, cast and chorus were incredibly generous when the heavens opened and yet the show went on with great support, and a wonderful atmosphere.
Some generous free drinks for the audience probably also helped!
Tonight is going to be a great performance, and end to the season ❤️ thank you to everyone involved to make it happen

Scottish lyric Soprano Lisa Moffat, who plays Lola in her debut for Duchy Opera, lives in Devon, and enjoys a busy schedule performing,

After gaining a BMus(Hons) from Huddersfield University, she studied for a PGDip at The Royal Northern College of Music with Barbara Robotham. Receiving both a Dame Eva Turner Scholarship and a Marjorie Squires Bursary, she sang in the Mozart and Schubert

Concert and Oratorio appearances include premiers of Daniel Kidane, Kenneth Hesketh with the RLPO's new music ensemble 10/10, Haydn's Nelson Mass, Brahms’ Deutsches Requiem, Beethoven and Mozart'sMass in C, Orff's Carmina Burana, and Handel's

Karen, who plays Lucia, came to classical singing late in life but since studying privately with Jane Metcalfe (D'Oyly Carte, Guildhall) she completed a Diploma in Opera Performance studies with Elizabeth Rowe at Birkbeck, and has performed in the Theatre Royal, Palladium, Actors
Church in Covent Garden and Schalke football stadium!

She made her Glyndebourne debut in 2013 as Elizabeth Taylor in the world premiere of Imago. Other roles include the title role in Carmen, Azucena - Il Trovatore, Filipevna - Eugene Onegin, Arnalta - L'incoronazione di Poppea, Annina - La Traviata, Suzuki - Madame
Butterfly, as well as most of the 'lady of a certain age' roles in G&S including Katya in the world premiere of Harrogate or Bust at Harrogate International G&S festival. She was also
a regular recitalist at Holy Trinity lunchtime concerts in Hastings.

Karen retired to Cornwall after nearly 40 years in the NHS, latterly as a voice therapist and Macmillan speech and language therapist, and during the pandemic started helping out at the cancer centre in Treliske where she continues to work.

Cornish Soprano, Rebecca Louise Dale is delighted to return to Duchy Opera to perform the role of Santuzza in this much-loved opera. After completing a degree in Music Theatre from the University of Wi******er, Rebecca continued her vocal training at Trinity College
of Music and later specialised in opera at the Advanced Performers Studio, London.

Rebecca has gone on to sing several leading operatic roles including: Mozart’s Papagena (Die Zauberflöte), Ninetta (La Finta Semplice), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Cherubino (Le Nozze
di Figaro), Donizetti’s Adina (L’elisir D’amore), Humperdink’s Gretel (Hansel & Gretel), Menotti’s Lucy (The Telephone), Berkeley’s Susan (A Dinner Engagement) & Gilbert and Sullivan’s Casilda (The Gondoliers). Rebecca also has a fondness for the Golden Age Era of musical theatre and continues to develop concerts showcasing songs of this almost
forgotten era. Recently her work has focused in on the prolific talent of Ivor Novello, performing the role of Mary Ellis in Ghost Lights: a musical play by David Slattery-Christy and a specially curated performance at the Actors Church, Covent Garden.

Since returning to Cornwall in 2021, Rebecca has performed at the beautiful Minack Theatre as narrator for Waltons Façade with the Cornish Sinfonia and has joined the rostra of musicians leading music sessions for the incredible charity Forget-me-not Chorus, providing music to those suffering with dementia.

In addition to performing Rebecca enjoys both producing and directing. Credits include Street Scene by Kurt Weill, Otello by Giuseppe Verdi, and Tosca by Giacomo Puccini

We're pleased to introduce the wonderful cast of Cavalleria Rusticana.

Cavalleria Rusticana is an opera in one act by Pietro Mascagni. If you're a film fan you may recognise it from the concluding half-hour of Francis Ford Coppola's 1990 film The Godfather Part III where the Corleone Family attend a performance of Cavalleria Rusticana at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Sicily.

There are still a FEW tickets left on Friday night and you can also come along on Tuesday or Wednesday - see the link in the bio to book your space.

05/06/2023

We're pleased to introduce the wonderful cast of Cavalleria Rusticana. Playing the role of Turiddu is Welsh tenor Ceri Davies from Cardigan Bay, West Wales.

He graduated earlier this year from the Wales International Academy of Voice as a Master of Arts where he was fortunate enough to study with some of opera’s greatest artists such as Dennis O’Neill CBE, Della Jones, Ryland Davies, Susan Bullock and many more.

Ceri is a familiar face within the concert scene in Wales and further afield; he very recently travelled to America as a soloist with Eschoir to sing at the North American Festival of Wales’ Grand Gala Concert in Philadelphia. He is also a frequent guest on Welsh TV channel S4C’s magazine show’s called Prynhawn Dâ and Heno as well as featuring on a number of Welsh comedies for Welsh comedy channel Hansh.

2022 proved very busy for Ceri with him performing for HRH King Charles III and Prime Minister Ralph Gonzalves of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines being only two of the many engagements.

2023 is also shaping up to be busy year, alongside concerts and recitals across the United Kingdom, he has sung at the Royal Chapel at the Cathedral of Seville, toured with Opera Cymru’s production of Così Fan Tutte, performed alongside soprano, Anna Gregory in Red Earth Opera’s Kings and Crowns Coronation Concert, and has been busy preparing for his Duchy Opera debut as Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana. He looks forward to performing this stunning piece for you.

There are still a FEW tickets left on Friday night and you can also come along on Tuesday or Wednesday - see the link in the bio to book your space.

Opera comes to Truro - June 2020

We’ll be updating this page very soon, but just to say that we are excited to be collaborating with Duchy Opera for our first event in June 2020.

Donizetti’s ‘The Elixir of Love’ will be performed outside at Park House on Saturday 20 June and Sunday 21 June.

The Saturday event will be a fabulous Feast Night with long tables, great food and wine and then the main event.

Sunday you will be welcome to bring a picnic and your families, enjoy the garden at Park House and then onto the opera itself.
