The second iteration of eBhangra was done so that we could do what we could for the farmers. Our team has been spending hours and hours and hours reading up on all the human rights violations, the farm bills, Nodeep Kaur and all the other journalists and people that have been detained or gone missing, and all the people who have passed. During the show itself we had the MCs explain some way they could be helping the protests either by calling their local representatives, joining the campaign, reading news from individual and independent journalists on the ground straight from the source and much more.
We believe that Bhangra competitions will get many many many more people to sit down and watch and while we have that captive audience, we can educate viewers about what is going on and what they can actually DO to help. Not enough to just educate, we all collectively have to enact change.
We’re hoping that you tune into the next stream to learn and donate to the Kisaan movement. If not, nbd but we do hope that you educate yourself and are moved to do something as well.

The violence and injustice that farmers in Punjab are experiencing cannot be ignored. As Bhangra is a dance form that roots from the celebration of harvest, it is our duty to spread awareness and support for the farmers in Punjab. After careful consideration due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we are announcing that we will be POSTPONING eBhangra 2.0 until late January. Although this was not an easy decision to make, we have to take into account the many situations and realized that this is the best interest for all the teams that would be participating. Our first priority is the health and safety of all the individuals that are involved in participating for eBhangra 2.0. We do encourage teams that would like to apply in the future to start working together to work on the choreo over zoom or any other similar process as the rubric and segments will not change.

Simran Lalli is a dancer who shares a love for performing the art of Punjabi folk dance. She hopes to empower others to help preserve the rich culture and heritage of Punjab. She began her bhangra career with Nachdi Jawani at the age of 8 and continued to join Toronto Allstar Girls (TAG Bhangra) at the age of 13 and competed internationally, winning trophies in not only music bhangra, but also live. Along the way, she continues to dance, lead & co-coach Toronto Allstar Girls (TAG Bhangra) , judge various bhangra competitions, and looks forward to inspiring youth all over the globe.

Kuntal is a co-founder and owner of Carolina Indian Arts , as well as co-founder and director of Championships of Bhangra . He has been active on the Bhangra circuit since 2008, during which he has competed at over 30 competitions and judged 15 competitions. He has performed with Khirre Phul Gulab De (KPGD), East Side Alliance (ESA), Carolina Bhangra Squad (CBS), and . His most notable accomplishments include winning 1st place at Bruin Bhangra 2017 (KPGD), Boston Bhangra 2015 (KPGD), Elite 8 Invitational 2012 (UNC), VPD 2012 (UNC), Bhangra in the Burgh 2011 (UNC), and twice winning 2nd-place at Bhangra Blowout (UNC). Kuntal founded Union of Bhangra Judges in hopes of creating a positive judging culture. With a degree in music, Kuntal also has a distinct ear for musicianship and mixing quality. He is excited to judge the first ever eBhangra!

Nimit Desai has been choreographing, dancing, and teaching Bhangra on the circuit for more than 6 years. He was the captain of the coed collegiate team Buckeye Bhangra from 2015-2017 as well as a choreographer for the independent team Khirre Phil Gulab De in 2017. He later went on to dance on the fusion circuit to help lead OSU Genesis to a national championship in 2018 as a choreographer as well. He has competed at over 25 competitions in his career and has placed at 11 (7 firsts). Nimit has since started judging competitions. He has previously judged Naach Di Cleveland and Buckeye Mela and is excited for the opportunity to be a part of the eBhangra panel. He hopes to bring an emphasis on intricate choreography and risk taking as well as a strong background in dancing fundamentals.

Saagar Menon has been apart of the fusion and bhangra circuit since starting his competitive career. He has danced and been a captain for First Class Bhangra and Pitt Mastana. In the year he captained FCB, FCB placed at every competition they went too. In addition to captaining FCB, Saagar has helped create choreography for multiple other Bhangra and Fusion teams. He has also been awarded Best Male Dancer at Championships of Bhangra.
