St. David's Foundation Community Garden at MLK Park holds a special place in my heart. It’s where I find peace during my meditations, take reflective walks on the hike and bike trail, and host my monthly Sunsets in Silence gatherings.

This past Saturday, I joined a group of dedicated volunteers to give back to this cherished space. Together, we cleaned up areas for replanting, picked up trash, and repaired wheelbarrows. It was a meaningful day—a blend of hard work, community, and connection to nature.

There’s something deeply fulfilling about caring for a place that brings so much peace into my life. It’s a reminder of how powerful it is to nurture the spaces that nurture us.

After two years of silence, I've come to realize that healing is a journey without an end. On September 1st, I chose to embrace silence once more, stepping away from speaking, and already, it’s offering me clarity, insight, and a deeper connection to myself and the world around me.

At this event, there are no expectations—just space for us to unplug, reconnect, and simply *be.* Whether you want to hike, journal, meditate, practice yoga, or even color, this is your time to honor whatever feels right in the moment.

This space is for anyone who wants to step away from the noise and into a peaceful space of reflection. It's a chance to disconnect from the distractions of the online world and truly be present with each other and with ourselves. Let’s embrace the silence together.

More Fun Conversations in Silence

Today, I went to Thundercloud Subs and wrote down my order, as usual. The guy taking my order seemed completely flustered by my silence. He didn’t know how to handle it, so he started miming—waving his hands around and holding up lettuce and other toppings to ask me questions.

I typed out a quick message on my phone and showed it to him: "You can talk, I can hear."

He burst out laughing. “Dude, I’m so sorry! I thought you were deaf!” he said. I reassured him, writing back, "It’s all good. I know it’s unusual."

He nodded, still smiling, and said, “Unusual is an understatement. I’ve never seen anything like this.”

Since the place was empty, we ended up having deeper conversation about my vow of silence. He asked me questions, and I explained why I do it. By the end, he stepped out from behind the counter, gave me props, and wrapped me in a big hug. “Peace be with you, brother,” he said.

It was a moment of connection—a reminder that silence, while unusual, can spark some of the most meaningful exchanges, even when just buying a sandwich.

Yesterday’s Grill and Chill was absolutely incredible!

The weather was perfect—not too hot, not too cold—and the shade made it even better. Huge shoutout to Kevin Pate for serving up his always-delicious food.
We met some awesome new people, had great conversations, and the music was on point all day. It was truly an amazing day, and I’m so grateful for Grill and Chill.

We’ll be taking a break next month since the park area will be closed for the holiday lights, but we’ll be back at the end of January.

This event holds a special place in my heart—it’s where The Underground ATX started, and it feels so good to be back home, creating these unforgettable experiences.

We’re kicking off the night with a private screening of *Friday* under the stars. 🎥🌟

Arrive at 4 pm to catch the beautiful sunset, and then settle in for the movie starting around 6 pm.

Chef Salt will be grilling up her amazing grilled cheese sandwiches, plus we’ll have a campfire for roasting marshmallows. 🔥🧀
