My next spotlight for is DJ Daemon Chadeau
Daemon Chadeau
He/They, genderq***r, polysexual, polyamourous
As a teenager in Long Beach California, Daemon had difficulty fitting in. Not one to fit neatly under one label or box, he started his journey of self discovery through music. Inspired by his step father, Daemon studied record production and record engineering at Long Beach City College.
While in college, Daemon would befriend promoter Blade Rhino of Goth Beach Studio. Through that friendship he would find his community by passing out flyers for local events. Continuing on this trend of event support, Daemon would find himself working the door in the Fremont area for former promoter Mad Ange. It was there that he would find his lucky break. In May of 2003, the main DJ of those club nights quit. Armed with a few books of CDs and his knowledge of music production and promotion, Daemon would launch from his humble beginnings into the limelight.
Since that fateful day, Daemon would start a prolific music career. Starting with various guest DJ spots in Las Vegas, he would eventually find himself back in Long Beach, where he had a yearly spot a GBS's Bizarre Vampire Bazzar, A residency at GBS's Rebel Aliance night, a residency at Hollywood's legendary Club Hell, amongst many others. In 2007, Daemon would extend his reach and scratch his DJ itch by performing online through Second Life.
In 2011, Daemon moved to the PNW, where he found himself performing regularly at Mercury at Machinewerks. There, he became a resident co-promoter for the Dark Industry night. Venturing outside of his comfort zone of industrial venues, Daemon started guest performing at Contour, leading him to become a semi-finalist of the Summer Sessions DJ Competition in 2013. With his newfound sense of accomplishment, he would start Rezonance, a club night focused on his love of power noise and dark industrial. It was at this time he became recognized by winning the Mechanismus Industrial Music Award for best local DJ, two years in a row.
Outside of his DJ performances, Daemon creates chunky bass lines for Prelude to a Pistol, a band described as “too goth for rock, and too rock for goth”. He is also the mind behind self described “Meower Noise” band Pixelpussy.
When he's not tickling eardrums for his fans and community, Daemon is an activist and a board member for Goth Pride Seattle, a non profit organization that strives to make an inclusive and diverse community through education, connections, events, and fundraising. Inbthe last five years, Daemon has been a board member, and president for the last three years.
When asked what Pride means to him, Daemon had this to say:
“Pride to me means that I don't have to hold back who I am. We all have our unique labels and categories in which we fit through the LGBTQIA2S+ spectrum, and we get to fly out multiple flags throughout! The goth scene exists BECAUSE of the q***r spaces that opened their doors to us in the infancy of our subculture in the late 70s and early 80s, so it's only appropriate that we in both the goth and q***r communities stand in solidarity with each other.”
