A Mother’s Day arrangement 💓! Hope all the mom’s enjoyed their family this weekend. My heart was heavy for several who lost a wife, a mother, or a child. I was praying for you. 💕

These are bearded iris from my Great Grandmother Dorothy’s garden. She lived to be 103 and gardened and mowed her own grass well into her late 90s. My Uncle Dave and Grandma Sue brought these down to me to plant. I love having these and other pieces of my family growing in my garden 💓

The room I have been crushing on for several months was done by aka Annie Brahler. Unfortunately the paint color was a color that was custom made for this room and there is no name that I can copy. I just love the cozy shadows and perfect way the soft taupes of the taxidermy and sophistication of the framed artwork pull this perfect collection into a velvety purr. The rough wood and luxurious couch create a perfectly stately lounging space. I want that!!

So as my quest to cozy and warm up this abode begins this is where my design longs to go. Leaving behind my modern farmhouse, I am ready to fully embrace this more collectible cottage look. Bring on the moody, intimate shadows and heavy framed misty landscapes.

Kelly Evans offered up her suggestions of paint samples to try to capture my "inspiration room" for me. She gave me a starting point and she offered several style suggestions that I may try if I am brave enough. Her outsider's eyes to my home ruled out un-obvious things to avoid and offered reasonable solutions to areas in my home I am struggling to design around.

Here's to moving into our next season, "empty nesting," with two feet. May I make this house feel cozy; not huge and empty, and create a story across the walls with our favorite collections and memories. May the sunlight, shadows and giant bouquets of gorgeous homegrown flowers layer the space with magical moments, and make it a place where family generations will gather and strangers will feel embraced .

This classic fall tablescape is simple and elegant. We started with a trip to Joann’s fabrics for textiles that could make placemats and napkins. This table is huge and buying those things would break the budget. It was much more cost effective to buy some clearance fabrics and make from scratch. The placemats were a mix to***co corduroy and satin. My napkins were a linen color, and I can’t wait to embroider them.
Next I pulled out my vintage Blue Willow dishes. I love these because the fit my cottage core look but also hold such a sentimental place in my heart as my grandmother helped me build my collection. The goblets are a new purchase on Amazon. They are amber colored and look very vintage. I feel like these were the money piece as the glow they give off when the candles are lit are everything! The silverware is a collector set that my husband bought at an auction. They are Ducks Unlimited and the detail of the duck head in them are also very cottage-like.
The center of the table has strong bones of black candlesticks and amber glass candlesticks giving off the perfect high low glow for an autumn ambience. And two elegant white pumpkins subtly bring in the garden harvest.
I have recently purchased three amazing crystal vases that I thrifted and cannot wait to fill them with billowy romantic rustic flowers. I will share when I do that.

I took this picture as I was returning from taking the trash bins to the road this morning. When I turned around to head in, I was over come with gratefulness. As I took in the sun rising behind my house, I remembered my pastor’s words from yesterday, “ God‘s love never ceases, and his mercies will never end and that they are new every morning.” I’m so grateful for that! Never underestimate the incredible blessings around you even when doing something as simple as taking up the trash bins.

Last night I was out in the dahlia seedling patch and the sky turned the most beautiful golden color. When I looked up there was a double rainbow centered perfectly over me and the flowers. Pure magic!

A week of rain and FINALLY we have flowers! And weeds…. But the garden is lush with blooms. After three weeks of poison ivy and 2 rounds of steroids I can finally get my hands back to the dirt. Such a good morning.

Who knew it would be my favorite filler.
3 years ago my hubby brought home this very sick “tree” that had burnt burgundy leaves and peeling bark with a stance that leaned towards the side a bit. It was on clearance so he couldn’t resist and I planted it immediately in the front and center of the house. At that time I really wasn’t sure what it was?
Three years later, this bush, who I have identified is Ninebark is represented in most of my bouquets! Each season it accentuates different show pieces in the garden. In Spring, the beautiful little white florettes with blush accents love to boldly soften its floral bouquet counterparts.
I love to you Ninebark and could probably use about 10 more of you!

The “Gaurd”ner

In the yearly cycle of flower farming I am in the preparation portion. I am looking over photos of the bouquets I made last year and the beds I planted and making sure I have the seeds I need to replicate of the ones I loved and of course add more varieties of what was lacking. As I order and organize my seed packets, it becomes clear to me that a haphazard attitude might leave me regretting my yield if I leave something out. We can only harvest what we plan for, plant, and cultivate. So it got me thinking about how true that is in life, with our relationships and then even more important with our relationship with God. Intentionality, time, and cultivation are requirements not goals! So further processing I thought about the weeds. How I never plant them but yet they grow (and very quickly). I guess they represent the distractions and the excuses and the strife, that starts to kill off our crop. We can’t just germinate, start seedlings, plant out and ignore; these plants require nourishment, staking, and someone to pull out the weeds a.k.a a “gaurd”ner to protect them. This is so relative to growing and cultivating children, and marriages. We can’t be passive about what we plant, we can’t miss steps or become apathetic, we can’t let the enemy creep in looking like busyness, fear, or offense. Plan well. Cultivate. Stay on guard. 🌸🌼🌻🌺💐-Heather Picker Pickin’ Posies
