Let us introduce our 2025 Grand Marshal, Michael Benn! We cannot wait for you to lead us up 5th Avenue March 17, 2025’

Michael Benn was born in Limerick City Ireland in 1948. He attended Christian Brothers School before migrating to the United States with his family in 1962. Michael finished school at Cardinal Hayes high school before attending and graduating from Mercy College with a degree in accounting.
Michael proudly served as a Sergeant in the US Army from 1969 through 1972.
Michael and his wife Christina, who also migrated from Limerick City, met in the Bronx, NY and eventually built their life and family in Rockaway Beach, NY. They have been happily married for 53 years and were blessed to have 6 beautiful children; 5 sons (Michael, Richard, William, Brendan, and Patrick), as well as their only daughter Tara. They have 5 wonderful daughters in laws (Kimberly, Helena, Martina, Valerie, and Kristen) as well as 11 grandchildren (Michael, Oliver, Shayla, Brendan, Ryan, Heidi, Madison, Richard, Mackenzie Cassidy, and Teagan). They raised their family to be proud of their Irish roots, to embrace their Catholic up bringing, and celebrate their Irish culture.
Michael retired from the Construction Industry after spending time in two strong unions: Local 30 I.U.O.E Operating Engineers and Local 608 Carpenters Union.
Michael is the President and Chairman of Queens County St. Patrick's Day Parade in Rockaway Beach, the 2nd largest St. Patrick's Day parade in New York. He works effortlessly on organizing the parade year-round to ensure strong Irish leaders are recognized and celebrated.
Michael has close ties in the Irish community and is very involved in celebrating Irish culture. He produces and directs Au Suil Na Gael "In the Eyes of the Irish" television show that promotes Irish culture and heritage.
He was honored by the New York City Council on 3 separate Occasions and received the Tom Manton award. Michael also received the Irish Ministry Shining Star, was the Chief Brehon of Coney Island's Great Irish Fair, and Queens County AOH man of the year.
Michael is a proud son of Limerick and his love for Ireland holds no bounds.

Hard to take this in. What a sad day for RTÉ. Two great broadcasters have passed away -Michéal O Muircheartaigh and Tommie Gorman. Lucky to have them as colleagues. Two remarkable men who lived life to the full, and whose achievements should be celebrated. Rest Peacefully lads.

Congratulations Cork well done today
