Keanu Reeves was abandoned by his father at 3 years old and grew up with 3 different stepfathers. He is dyslexic. His dream of becoming a hockey player was shattered by a serious accident. His daughter died at birth. His wife died in a car accident. His best friend, River Phoenix, died of an overdose. His sister has leukemia.
And with everything that has happened, Keanu Reeves never misses an opportunity to help people in need. When he was filming the movie "The Lake House," he overheard the conversation of two costume assistants; One cried because he would lose his house if he did not pay $20,000 and on the same day Keanu deposited the necessary amount in the woman's bank account; He also donated stratospheric sums to hospitals.
In 2010, on his birthday, Keanu walked into a bakery and bought a brioche with a single candle, ate it in front of the bakery, and offered coffee to people who stopped to talk to him.
After winning astronomical sums for the Matrix trilogy, the actor donated more than $50 million to the staff who handled the costumes and special effects - the true heroes of the trilogy, as he called them.
He also gave a Harley-Davidson to each of the stunt doubles. A total expense of several million dollars. And for many successful films, he has even given up 90% of his salary to allow the production to hire other stars.
In 1997 some paparazzi found him walking one morning in the company of a homeless man in Los Angeles, listening to him and sharing his life for a few hours.
Most stars when they make a charitable gesture they declare it to all the media. He has never claimed to be doing charity, he simply does it as a matter of moral principles and not to look better in the eyes of others.
This man could buy everything, and instead every day he gets up and chooses one thing that cannot be bought: To be a good person.

I think a lot about why those who have always been on the outside looking in have such a heart for community and relationship-building.

I think we learned to be very good at creating what we didn’t have easily out of necessity and we understand the importance of how relationships foster everything good in this world.

Ok! Ready for tip #3 in the 5 part mini-series to help you make delivering online events that engage your audience and grow your brand so much easier? So far I’ve covered projecting success and setting goals today I am covering…

effective and intentional action-taking.

When you’re still working out the kinks of what does and doesn’t work in event coordinating for your brand, there’s going to be a lot of trial and error, perfectly normal.

What’s important to note is the WAY that you taking action for aspects such as platform and speaker outreach and communication, vendor management, A/V management, attendee communication , marketing.

As James Clear in Atomic Habits quotes, “winners and losers have the same goals.” Your means to your goals, your systems for continuous small improvement, are going to be what achieve success.

So how can we measure if our actions are working towards success during coordinating? Time and money.

In the digital world, what tools can we use to help us handle this? Task management systems like Asana for ease of team communication and project management, monitoring expenses with budget sheets, clocking work hours, templating all communication and scheduling your emails to go out, using auto-schedulers like Planoly to post your social media content during marketing phases, providing training to teams and volunteers through Loom videos, slack for communication as well, contract management with Dubsado..

There are SO many ways. Many that are low cost and or free.

There’s always a better, faster, easier and more efficient way to handle things that can normally be time and money-consuming.

I like showing the inside scoop of my upward trajectory because I think transparency connects + informs people while taking the romanticization out of the biz building process.

Being able to do things my way and have the freedom to make mistakes and grow on my terms has been the most liberating thing I’ve challenge myself to do this year.

I’ve been able to pay another black woman, become a speaker for multiple events, work with well-respected production crews and have countless other milestones that I am only scratching the surface with.

it really takes a different level of heart and mind to continue to serve at a high-level but once you do something once you can do it 1000x. Leading with integrity first has always gotten me further than any “tip & trick” could’ve.

No secrets to success, just do the work.

In the words of Nipsey the only distinguishing quality is that I didn’t give up… and won’t.

I find that the more I discipline myself, motivation becomes muscle memory and even at small times when I experience an inconvenience or conflict, I’m able to feel it out, take the lesson, reframe and bounce back into a mindset that suits the mood I want to cultivate for the day. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I’m definitely not a Monday person, so I let herbal tea, crisp Fall air and journaling lead me. Well, and the caramel Macchiatos that have a chokehold on my life right now. I’m not a pumpkin spice babe at all, but I’m looking forward to peppermint hot cocoa and bigger fuzzy socks.
