Imoblc is a month a way. Also called St. Brigit's Day . . . a time to remember the changing season, the warming of the sun and the ripening, fertility of life. . . it's time to honor the home. . . nurturing all that is within us. https://www.celticspiritbooks.com/blog/imbolc-and-stbrigid

The thrill of seeing the first flower of the season pop up is at the heart of the Celtic Festival of Imbolc: that time midway between winter solstice and spring equinox. Thus, the snowdrop is its symbol and green and white are its colors. Here is the US, it is Groundhog Day. But to the Celtic people

"An Eastern Ballad

I speak of love that comes to mind:
The moon is faithful, although blind;
She moves in thought she cannot speak.
Perfect care has made her bleak.
I never dreamed the sea so deep,
The earth so dark; so long my sleep,
I have become another child.
I wake to see the world go wild." - Allan Ginsberg

Prayer Flags have been blowing in the wind for 2000 years. They help to remind others of values. . . and remind us who we are . . . the good side of humanity. Honesty, kindness, faith, trust and more. . .

During this Corona time, we are making Prayer Flags, though we call them "Spirit Flags", in honor of those who have past either this past year or before. . .

If you would like one, handmade with stitches on a broom stick, please let us know. . . a way to see your loved on blowing in the wind, free and happy. . .

Or, if you would like a sacred design in the mountains of California, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. . .we can do that too. . a beautiful memory for your loved one, that which is natural and sacred.

Would you like a small nature memorial, a work of art in the woods for your past love one? A memory that will move with the natural elements, of wind and rain, connecting to the bigger natural spirit?

I'm happy to make a tribute in his or her honor, creating a temporal, natural memorial for their spirit. . . with the natural elements, near a stream or on top of a mountain? Or at the base of a wonderous tree reaching up to the sky?

Life and death . . . the natural cycle, yet one that is difficult to accept . . . what if we can accept with grace and celebrate that which we have been given? We can walk in gratitude for each and every day. . . find your gratitude and in that you may find your peace.

A photo of my grandmother who fought the hospital to be at home. She died next to my grandfather watching the drapes blow in the open bedroom window, laying in her own bed. Her cat was by her side. . . and she was in comfort and in peace.

Her final words "look how beautiful the curtains sway in the breeze."

Such simplicity. Such beauty.

This December we prepare for the first community winter spiral, an event we created for our homeschooling community . . .

We will place a spiral of evergreen around a Lakota symbol - in reverence to the light and darkness, the four directions and that spirit that is bigger than our own. . . carrying light that is in each of us. . . by invitation only. No photographs.

Greetings all. . . the idea behind this got started with my dear friend and the children's author Bryna Stevens about six years ago. She was about 85 years old when she was found dead in her apartment in San Francisco. No one came for her and the City of San Francisco literally took all her belongings and threw them away, except her beloved piano which got donated to charity. What's more, they took her body and that was it . . . she literally disappeared from this planet Earth. No memorial, no obituary. NOTHING. That was when I learned from the City of San Francisco how many people die daily on the streets and the same things happens to them . . . literally, daily.

I had lost touch with my friend Bryna for a few years, as I was engrossed with raising kids, running a nonprofit and other excuses we give ourselves when we don't pay attention to a chronic failure of ours as a society.

My first celebrant activity, as is my attention, is to work with the City of San Francisco for a public memorial service for Bryna Stevens, recognizing her contributions as an author and musician and a reminder to so many others daily who are forgotten - it's time to remember who we are as "people" and what we want to be as a society.

All my work will be specifically related to our death as a means to live again - as trees giving hope and breath to future generations. It's the greatest gift we can do in our passing. .. to integrate and return to nature. . . which is our nature.

With the millions passing yearly, we could literally grow green mountains from the rubble of the oil industry that has left West Virginia a disaster or the fires of California leaving dead stumps and the beginnings of desertification . . .

Contact me . . . to join this effort. Death brings life and it's the last great act of giving back to our beautiful Planet Earth.

Barbara McVeigh

The value of life is the greatest value we share - and often times that respect is brightest in death, when we sink into contemplation and reflection of a loved one. I am a trained celebrant to help families and individuals transition through this great rights of passage. I also bring to this practice the sacredness of nature, specifically trees, that life giving force that feeds us breath during our lives. I will help you or your loved ones prepare a magical ceremony, one that helps to heal not only our loved ones, but one that also caters to hope of new life for all future generations. My own Irish/Celtic roots have called me at this time. My name McVeigh means “Life” and I feel grateful to have had privilege of experiencing freedom and beauty in my own life time. . . my work is to ensure we all can feel that sense of freedom and beauty in our lives. By death, we will live again and we can leave a message to those of future generations, a tree of life.
