Thanks to everyone that made the trip downstairs on Friday for our final Mondo DISCOTECA PSICODELICA of the year!
Thanks to Don Kc and for bringing such beautiful tunes and positive vibes to the space - was an absolute pleasure sharing the decks with you guys! Let’s do it again soon!
Shout out to the staff who are always super friendly and welcoming to us and the crowd who come down. Thanks for giving Mondo a home 🙏
Thanks most of all to all the dancers - old friends, new friends, regulars and first timers - who came out every time and made the night what it is. We thought a lot about the sort of night we wanted Mondo to be, and two years in we’re so blessed and grateful for all the positivity everyone has brought to the night. It continues to exceed our expectations!
The DISCOTECA will be back in the new year at with yet more SPECIAL GUESTS! ⭐️

Üç Hür-el – Madalyonun Ters Yüzü / Haram (1973)

More Anatolian psych-folk-rock from Türkiye’s brilliant brethren 3 Hur-el.

The groups name not only reflects the brothers’ surname (Hurel), but by separating it into its constituent parts it means Free Hand; representing the freedom they found by working as a trio, outside of the constraints of their previous musical endeavours.

The state-owned Syliphone label rarely disappoints in terms of quality and this banger of a 45 is no exception. It’s definitely one of the heaviest tracks I’ve picked up on that label and just wait for that break. 🎶 So damn funky! This should warm up The Rumsey Underbelly nicely! 🔥

Fruko Y Sus Tesos - El Preso (1975)

Please to finally get this big salsa classic in the bag for THIS FRIDAY night

I was fascinated to discover recently that this major upbeat tune is lyrically pretty dark stuff. The song was composed by the band’s percussionist Álvaro Velásquez and the lyrics are the narration of a prisoner (“preso”) serving 30 years. The actual inspiration for songwriter Velásquez was a friend’s letter describing another friend’s pain being jailed for 30 years on a drug charge!

With just 2 weeks to go until our next Discoteca , we’re delighted to confirm we’ve got not just one, but two killer guest selectors for you!

Making up part of the always brilliant , .kc.86 has been bringing his eclectic selection of musical treats to Norwich for over 20 years. He’ll be alongside his humble companion, who’ll need no introduction to a lot of you, the man the myth, the legend . We can’t wait to see what 🔥 they bring to the dancefloor.

As always, our fee for the night will be donated to our guest’s chosen charity. Dom and Spenny have picked the vital non-profit who provide vital services to those that are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Norwich.

Francesco De Masi – India (1966)

Beautiful soundtrack compositions by De Masi for Folco Quilici’s documentary India. I’m a bit obsessed with this kind of vibe at the moment, chasing down these intricate, laid back evocative instrumentals that seemed to pour out of Italy in this era.
De Masi was known for his western soundtracks, although probably overshadowed in popular consciousness by those that would follow with more avant garde work such as Morricone. For slasher fans he’s probably best known for his soundtrack to Fulci’s The New York Ripper, providing the perfect mix of jazzy funky sleaze for that delightfully reprehensible rollercoaster.
As the nights draw in this kind of music heads into hibernation in my collection (preserved for a future springtime terrazza…) - we need some HEAT right now and that’s exactly what we’ll bring in our last DISCOTECA of the year at on FRIDAY 29/11. Tell a friend. Have a beer or two, and join us down on the Underbelly dancefloor. FREE ENTRY as always 🧡

Various – Primavera

Beautiful contemporaneous French comp from MP2000 subsidiary St Germain Des Prés featuring (in the main) some bossa from the Italian big boys, Alessandroni, Nicolai, Filippi.

These French comps often feature cuts from some of the artists’ significantly rarer originals (e.g. Bossa Italiana/Italienne originally featuring on Alessandroni E Il Suo Complesso) or alternate takes (such as Nicolai’s track La Voix bearing the hallmarks of an outtake from the Marquis De Sade’s sessions).

I’m not sure if I’m ready for winter yet.

So many excellent dealers and collectors selling, all soundtracked by some of the city’s finest DJs including previous Mondo guests and . Can’t wait!
