Let’s also not forget that Nikki Richman never had any intention of keeping Chanel in Alaska, where she could be close to her family and her culture. In fact, Nikki Richman knew Chanel’s grandmother wanted custody of her and Nikki inquired about moving her to the US Virgin Islands when Chanel was barely in her care for one year.

A non-Native woman has been continually abusing the legal system to retain unlawful custody of an Indigenous child from Selawik, Alaska.
This child was due to be returned to her grandmother by the Tribal Court in Selawik and yet has still not been returned while the woman who is keeping her, Nikki Richmond, continues to file motions that are both untrue and unlawful leading to orders of protection being issued as an attempt to keep custody of a child and is in direct contempt of court and the Indian Child Welfare Act.
This child, Chanel, became a ward of this woman when her father signed a power of attorney upon his arrest for murdering her mother - something that never should have been allowed when there was a clear living relative who was capable, willing and fit to care for her - Arlene Ballot, her maternal grandmother. The same person this woman is trying to insinuate is a threat for doing what the court order gave her permission and is within her lawful rights to do.
Why has this woman not been arrested for violating court orders and being in direct contempt of court?
Why is the State of Alaska continuing to abuse Native rights by allowing this to happen without stepping in to ensure this child is returned to her village?
Why has this been a continual fight to get Nikki to return this child who holds no biological tie to her after she has posted blatantly racist content about Chanel and raising her to be an indentured servant?
Who is accountable in Alaska for ensuring that tribal law, sovereign law, is followed and that state law is not used to unlawfully lie and file paperwork for restraining orders and motions to overrule an existing court order for the return of a child?
Why is this poor elderly woman being drawn through the mud trying to gain her granddaughter back after her daughter was murdered by her father and Alaska still hasn't done a single thing to stop it?
Please - do what you are called on as civil servants to do and ensure this abuse of the system, Arlene and Chanel comes to an end.
