Team Kalāpi had the pleasure and honor of hosting three incredible young artists on Sunday, February 2nd, at our second annual Rising Stars 2025 Sur-Saaz, a Hindustani vocal and instrumental concert! Sur-Saaz featured talented Hriday Buddhdev, student of Alam khan on Sarod Solo and equally talented Rohan Upamaka on Vocal Solo!! These two young artists are also trained tabla players, so they accompanied each other and created double dhamaka on stage!! On harmonium, we had yet another amazing young artist A***n Prakash!
All three of them mesmerized the audience with their masterful music! It was truly awe-inspiring to see such talent in these young artists. They are bright Rising Stars for sure!
We want to thank the artists for accepting our invitation to perform in San Diego! We hope this is just the beginning of your San Diego connection.
Also, a HUGE thanks to our incredible family, friends, and volunteers for helping us put this concert together. Your support is much much appreciated. We couldn't have done it without you! Thank you!!!
Last but not least, thanks to everyone who attended the concert. Your overwhelming response is what will keep us going. Please continue to encourage and support us!

Introducing A***n Prakash - the third Rising Star of the Sur-saaz concert!!

A***n is well known to the San Diego music community.
Currently an undergraduate student at UC San Diego, A***n has learnt harmonium, or samvadini, under the tutelage of his gurujis - Shri Partho Roy Choudharyji (disciple of Ustad Amjad Ali Khan saheb) and Shri Adarsh Saxena ji (disciple of Pt Arun Bhaduri ji) and is currently continuing his musical journey under Shri Tanmay Deochake ji. A***n has begun his musical journey in Southern California by accompanying esteemed artists such as Srimati Srivani Jade ji and Gaayatri ji, and hopes to continue his journey further as a student of music here.

Introducing Hriday Buddhdev, another talenter Rising Star of the Sur Saaz concert! Hriday will captivate you with the mesmerizing sounds of his Sarod in the first half of the concert.

Based in Canada, Hriday has a deep passion for Indian classical music. He has been studying the Sarod since a young age under the guidance of renowned Ustad Alam Khan. Over the years, Hriday has performed across the USA, UK, and locally, earning recognition as one of CBC’s 30 Under 30 hottest classical artists in 2023. He is also a two-time recipient of the advanced instrumental scholarship from the AACM. In 2023, Hriday showcased his expertise at VSO’s Day of Music with a lecture-demonstration on the dynamics of the Sarod. Alongside his musical peers, he co-hosts Tablast, a podcast where they explore and share insights into Indian classical music.

We're thrilled to introduce Rohan Upamaka, one of the Rising Stars of the Sur Saaz concert!

Rohan Upamaka, a 20-year-old Bay Area native, is a dedicated student of Indian Classical Music. He began his vocal training under the guidance of Archana and Manoj Tamhankar and has been advancing his skills with Pt. Vijay Koparkar for the past four years. Currently, Rohan is a junior at the University of Washington in Seattle, balancing his academic journey with his deep passion for music.
