TONIGHT - SUNDAY 30th January 7pm to 11pm A night of jazz-funk will hit the city as a popular 1980s British jazz-funk band, "Light of the World" brings its tour to the Gaiety Southsea. Tickets are available now and can be purchased from https://book.events/lightoftheworld
The trio, which is made up of Gee Bello, Nat Augustin, and Mel Gaynor, will play a combination of their classic hits, such as London Town, I Shot the Sherif, and No. 1 Girl, as well as tracks from their new album, Jazz Funk Power – a lockdown project which they released in September last year.
The idea behind the album was to keep the spirit of jazz-funk and Light of the World going, two decades after the band last reunited for their 1999 Inner Voices album.
Lead vocalist, Gee said: ‘the Jazz Funk Power album came about after realising that many of our favourite bands like Earth Wind and Fire, Incognito, Jamiroquai, Tower of Power, Brand New Heavies, Kool and The Gang and Chic were still enjoying success many decades later. With our records still being played across national and worldwide radio with digital streaming platforms too, we realised our music also has a timeless quality, therefore Jazz Funk really does have Power and Energy, so it felt right to name the album Jazz Funk Power.
‘We are so happy that our music is now available Worldwide at the click of a button and thrilled to be making new music for our fans.’
Shortly after releasing Jazz Funk Power, the band then went on to release a live album, Black Gold Live in December last year.
The album is made up of Light of the World’s biggest hits played to live audiences, showcasing a hybrid of music and entertainment and is available to download or stream in audio and video formats.
The show will start at 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 30, Tickets are available now and can be purchased from https://book.events/lightoftheworld
