Did you know that I am also an experienced photographer and graphic designer? I have been running my own freelance business for over 8 years now and I thought it would be a bit of fun to post some of my fashion photography work as I think there are creative parallels to my floristry. You can tell by looking at both my photography and floristry work that I love the relaxed, unstructured and unconventional aesthetic of bohemian style.

In fashion photography, many elements need to come together to tell a story, create a mood and convey a brand or message. To achieve this, I love to photograph people outside and use the natural environment as inspiration to create a theme, while using fashion and styling as a way to invoke that feeling and create a story.

In a lot of ways, my floristry is no different. Instead of using fashion to create the mood, I use colours and careful curation to translate my clients unique briefs and invividual style into florals that tell a story of their own.

The MANY angles of one bouquet ✨
We create bouquets with a ‘front’ in mind to ensure it looks perfect as you walk down the isle. What you may not know is that we also have to make sure the bouquet looks amazing from EVERY angle. Your bouquet will be with you through all of the big moments on your wedding day. Your photographer will capture it for the key moments, plus all of the in-between ones where you are laughing with your new husband, watching the sunset or walking to your next location - the candid moments where you aren’t consciously thinking about holding your bouquet so that it is facing the ‘front’.

There is so much time that goes into creating each bouquet, and every ingredient is selected and placed with purpose and care to ensure it looks beautiful no matter what you are doing, on one of the most special days of your life.

I was halfway through making this bridal bouquet to post out to Mudgee for a workshop, when I found out the rest of NSW was going into lockdown. It has been killing me not to finish this dried beauty off, but I just know that over time I will come up with new ideas and get more amazing dried varieties to add. So for now I have slowly been adding to it bit by bit when it feels right, making it the most amount of time I have spent on a bouquet (and my perfectionist trait means I spend a longggg time on bouquets as it is 😂). When I’m finished she will be wildly oversized and I can’t wait for her to hopefully get her day in front of the camera soon! 🤞🏼

This is one of two card designs that go out with all dried gift deliveries around the Northern Beaches. I designed these up-beat cards myself so that you can remind your loved ones that they are amazing even though you can’t give them a big hug when you want to most. And I couldn’t resist adding a fun little floral pun in there! Whether it’s a special occasion or just to let someone know you are thinking of them, flowers can help you brighten your favourite peoples day, in these otherwise exhausting times.

When you send through a dm or enquire about a wedding, this is the face you will be chatting too (though a lot less presentable, we are in the middle of a pandemic after all)!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

How can I best describe myself so you can get to know me? The moment I saw the meaning of the word ‘Meraki’ I immediately resonated with it. Finally there was a word that described the heart, soul and passion that goes into everything I create - and I’m sure so many other creatives feel the exact same way!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The feeling of creativity and being creative is so hard to describe to people, especially for me who isn’t great at expressing myself through words. Creativity is a mood and it cannot be forced. If I get pulled away while I’m in the middle of creating, I feel like part of my brain is left back there with whatever I am working on at the time. Creativity is a feeling of passion, love and expression that I get completely lost in. I am someone who cares deeply about aesthetics so my home is always neat and tidy, but when I am creating I make a total explosion of mess because my creative brain is ticking away and so focused on what I’m doing that I don’t notice the world around me. It completely and utterly enthrals me.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I definitely work best with relaxed clients who give me creative freedom and put their complete trust in me and my creativity. Earthy terracotta reception styling from our shoot at with a team of incredible vendors. We used a mix of fresh and dried flowers/palms/grasses for a boho feel, combining them with native flowers and gum as a nod to the beautiful surrounding bush land of Royal National Park.

The bridal table florals sit pretty in some vintage brass vases, finished off with some cute little bunny tails tied in with the napkins. Of course we had to make use of that gorgeous fire place with a large statement arrangement!

Mixed urn set-up featuring all dried flowers for a beautiful hen 💕 To create this photo backdrop, we combined neutral tones with soft pinks, which is definitely a hot favourite at the moment! How long do they last? This is our most asked question in relation to dried flowers! With the right care, dried flowers can last approx 1-3 years. Here are our top tips for getting the most out of your dried flowers:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨ Keep out of direct sunlight
Dried flowers fade over time and the sun speeds up this process.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨ Keep them dry
Avoid high moisture rooms such as bathrooms or near the steam/wet areas in the kitchen.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨ Avoid humidity
Put them away into a cupboard or cooler room on really humid days.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨ Do not water
Water makes their stems weak and promotes mould growth.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨ Be gentle
They can be fragile, so handle with care. Keep them out of windy areas and the direction of air or heat vents.

Some of my fave shots from Sophie & Chris’s intimate wedding in Balmain last Friday. They tied the knot surrounded by their nearest & dearest in front of beautiful scenic views of the harbour. There was also a special appearance from their puppy - I’m so here for puppies celebrating with you on your big day 😍

They wanted to keep things simple, opting for a bridal bouquet, groom buttonhole & cake flowers featuring colourful natives.

Who else thinks all pillars should have flowers wrapped around them!? This long lasting beauty was created for in Manly. The design wraps ¾ of the way around the pillar starting at the top which is visible through the window. It then continues down to create a feature behind the counter and finishes around the corner at eye level so the girls can use it as a backdrop when they are taking pics of their clients hair.

We decided on whites, creams, peaches and yellows to create this dreamy colour palette 😍 The most challenging part about this install was the corners. It was really important to create a smooth transition so the installation flowed seamlessly around the two corners.

Beyond obsessed with the images of last months styled shoot 😍

I was thrilled when Renee from invited me to be apart of an earthy, boho shoot at the beautiful last month.

To compliment the breathtaking bush land around the venue I used native style flowers and gum leaves, combining them with some of my fave dried pieces and pops of burnt orange for a fresh boho twist.

We had such an amazing lineup of vendors, every single one of them brought something incredible to the shoot.

As some of you know, one of my other areas of expertise is photography, and the photographer in me couldn’t resist getting creative and taking this beauty out on a little shoot. My boyfriend and I went hiking to find this amazing view, where I instructed him on how to take a series of silhouettes.

How stunning does the bouquet look when paired with the colours in this dress?!

As we’re seeing many couples take the leap and elope in the current environment, I love seeing them make the most of it by creating a daring and out of the box experience. It’s magical what you can create when you aren’t constrained by the expectations some traditions dictate!

You wouldn’t be able to get 100+ guests to hike up the rocky path to this incredible view, but with just your nearest and dearest you could absolutely pull it off 💕

New wall installation sitting pretty in in Narrabeen ✨

Jaclyn contacted me a month ago interested in getting a vertical dried installation to go down a pillar in the salon. As soon as I saw her vibrant feature wallpaper I knew this was going to be a fun one!

I immediately started collecting fresh green palms to dry out for 3 weeks so that I could pick up some of the green tones and shapes within the tropical wallpaper. Of course I added pops of peaches and yellow to compliment the colours within the salon. I also mixed in some neutrals and whites to balance everything out.

Working with businesses to create long lasting installations is where I really draw from my graphic design background. I approach the design in the same way I would approach a logo / branding project. Before I even start designing, I not only look at the space, but also the brand itself in depth so that I can capture its personality and feel. I love coming up with unique solutions for businesses to visually translate their brand and add an extra layer that helps complete the styling within their space. Plus with me also being a professional photographer, I can also send you through high quality images of your new statement piece styled within your space. @ Atlas Hair Studio
