Diamonds and Roses Floral Design and Special Events had an opportunity to work with the Amazing Aishetu Gullattee of Gullattee Gowns. She made 70 gowns for young ladies of the DMV. It was an excellent experience!! Working with another professional in the fashion industry! Sometimes your business may be slow but offer other services build partnerships. I was able to offer booking services, handling client’s appointments and hand sewing.

I remember the day I walked across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma holding John Lewis’s hand. Barack, my mom, our girls, and so many remarkable civil rights heroes were right by our side—and we could feel the electricity in the air.

Of course, this was not the first time that Congressman Lewis had crossed that bridge. He had crossed 50 years before fighting for the right to vote—knowing the dangers he would face when he made it to the other side, but understanding that the work was bigger than him. He helped change history that day, and we are all so much better off because of it.

The best way we can honor Congressman Lewis’ legacy is by continuing his fight. That’s why I hope you’ll take the time to learn more about When We All Vote, an organization I founded that is working to make sure that no voice goes unheard. From registering people to vote, fighting voter suppression laws, and educating people about their rights, When We All Vote is working tirelessly to pick up Congressman Lewis’ torch. A picture of Sara Forbes Bonetta in Brighton in 1862. Bonnetta was the goddaughter of Queen Victoria. Born into a prominent Yoruba family in 1843, Bonetta was just 5-years-old when a rival king defeated her tribe. Her parents were killed and she was enslaved forced to do "whatever" was required of her. Bonetta ended up in England and was "gifted" to British Captain Frederick Forbes.

Forbes in turn, gave the young orphan his name and asked Queen Victoria to take Bonetta “under her protection.” The queen agreed, and after meeting the 7-year-old in November 1850, penned a journal entry praising her as “sharp and intelligent.” Over the years, Victoria supported Bonetta by paying for her education and taking an interest in her and her family.

This ruling overturned Richard and Mildred Loving's arrest nine years earlier for their in*******al marriage. Today, in their honor, we celebrate . The story of the Lovings has become one of defiance against all odds, even laws, in order to love freely.
