It’s soon time to start a new school year.
My girls will be going into Year 3 and Year 4, how did that happen?!
Here’s some party kit network tips for a greener Back to School…
🍏 Only buy stuff that’s actually needed. Get your kids to help review what they already have before purchasing anything new. If last year’s shorts still fit, stick with them!
🍎 If the uniform whites aren’t looking so bright try soaking in a bucket of cold water with 4 tablespoons of salt before washing. It won’t remove all marks, but after soaking overnight our grey-looking polo shirts did come out whiter. Sunlight is also a great natural stain remover.
🍏 Learn to embrace the pen marks. Having uniform free of pen marks is a nice aspiration but takes time and often relies on products which are harmful to our waterways. (Plus, a pen-free top it won’t make their handwriting any clearer!)
🍎 Look for secondhand uniform first. Initially you may be skeptical of what quality you might find, but jumpers from the secondhand sale at school and eBay as well as school trousers and PE trainers from Vinted can be found with plenty of wear left in them. (Many schools now don’t require branded uniform which does increase the options for sourcing secondhand).
🍏 If buying new stationary, look for products made from recycled material or try sourcing supplies via a local swaps group. Neighbours might just have what you need.
🍎 If buying a new water bottle pick one which is as durable as possible and label it. Reusables are only better for the environment if we use them as many times as possible!
