Pearly Whites
Costume jewelry and upholstery trim take center stage on this adaptation of an anemone, or is it a spider mum? What do you think?
For this experiment I took the center of an anemone and multiplied it with these cute pear bobbles from some vintage costume jewelry, with fringe made of upholstery trim.
Not shown, is how cool it moves in the wind with its ostrich feather tips. (I promise I'll take more videos)
Lately, I've been turning my design process on its head and coming up with more creative ways to depict the difficulty bitz of flowers. Where I find a challenge, I find beauty and freedom. I've been calling it the Yaaassification of paper flowers.

I'm back at It again, this time with a flower I've never attempted in paper. These Anemones were from and . I went to the market this week to bring in some sunshine for the home and immediately fell in love with these Anemones. This one I recreated was the beat up one in the bunch, but what I loved was its character and its resilience.
This flower took me over 4 hours to recreate from life, (I saved some time by using some premade laminated paper I made for another project.) I took my time and really looked at how each petal made a difference for the next one. One of my biggest struggles with this bloom was the proportion of the petals to one another as well as the decaying petals.
My favorite part of this flower is the spots of decay throughout the bloom, I really love how it captures the last breath of this Anemone.
Golden Mustard Rose Study
The month of March was one of the most challenging I've had in some time. I started it out with a 2 week illness that left me tired and lacking motivation followed by the unexpected passing of my uncle. It's when we are least expecting, that the best lessons are learned.
Take time to rest, because we're stronger when we have the time and space to take each moment with intention and dedication. Take time to be with your family, because you never know when you'll get to see them again. Take the time to listen to yourself and know that sometimes the right decision is the hardest one to make.
Be kind to yourself, and call your loved ones, tell him you love them ❤️❤️❤️

I'm trying to embrace the unconventional nature of paper flowers and floristry in general. I'm going to be including things we see all the time in crafts but put a Wonky Bloom filter on it all. I present here a sneak peak into the color pallet and focal blooms of my next project. What do you think I should add?
Boop
Sometimes you just gotta throw some flowers in your hair and take a cute pic, so that on days when the world seems very heavy you can look back and giggle at yourself for looking silly, but stylish. Today is one of those days. So, please enjoy this lovely headpiece made with my acid green version of Martagon Lillie's, and some preserved hydrangea.
This is the first new flower in my new space and I wanted to do something out of the box. I give you
'Charlotte in Blue' modeled after the very frilly and fancy 'Charlotte Ranunculus' I wasted to do it in blue to see if I could capture it's energy and form but do it in a color not seen in nature.
I hand dyed the paper blue and added marker touches with some pastels for accents. I hope you like it, I can't wait to see what new things I create in this studio.

I'm about to get super sappy for a second. Five years ago I met this beautiful person in Philadelphia, never would I have imagined the journeys we would be on in these past 5 years. Jordan you're a rock in unsteady seas, a beacon of light when the world seems dark and a fire that burns bright even through the toughest of times. I love you so much and cannot wait for the rest of our lives and all of the adventures that come along the way. I'm so happy to be your partner, and future husband! Je t'aime mon petit canard, 🦆😘🧡
Roses, because you know, I'm obsessed.
There are few flowers that have such a captivating energy for me. Roses have been bred with such diversity, that I cannot keep myself away. I love these garden style varieties with their swirls, and nuanced colors. As I'm working I'm constantly working to make them more lifelike, and from what I've learned, there's no shortcuts. With each of these every petal as has been hand cut, folded and pleated and curled, a true labor of love, each one of these blooms took me around 2.5 hours to make and assemble.
The infinite possibilities of freshly dyed paper.
I keep all my paper scraps as incur petals and then when I get enough (a 3-gallon bucket full) I make a little dye soup and put a bunch of paper through it. This year my dye came out to a cranberry red. With that as my base I started with white and yellow paper to get some beautiful pinks and oranges and then I slowly added green and blue papers to deepen the color and add a little drama. By the end of this process I came out with a beautiful muddy rose dye that I can't wait to use in the future.
What should I make with all these beautiful colors?
All dyed paper is 180g paper of various colors, and the scraps are from all over the place lololol
Taking a moment to appreciate the beauty I get to surround myself in! This summer I've been the studio manager for and it's been a blast! To be able to play with flowers every week and make such beautiful arrangements has truly been an honor. It's a lot of work to do wedding flowers but it's always better with a good team! Love you

Poppies and peonies a perfect pairing.
There is a great pleasure when you have the creative freedom to make blooms that defy mother nature. I really enjoyed making these blue poppies with their coral centers, they take on such a personality, and major wow factor. They played so well with the Ruffled Sunset peonies that I made after a trip to . I'm definitely looking forward to making more odd ball blooms and playing with color more.

Pastels? For summer? Groundbreaking.
Sometimes I like to create like I threw a bag of mixed seeds into the garden and let it go wild. I would call this miss my pastel splendor mix. This is probably the last poppy post for a minute, I need to work on something else lol. What would you love to see next?
Poppies!
I just want to lay in a field of these pretties and watch the clouds go by. However, I can't do that because they're almost out of season and I live in the middle of a city. So making them is the next best thing. Soo soo soooooo excited for where these beauties are going to end up! More on that later ;)

Just some cuttings from my "Garden"
It's kind of funny and a little bit surreal to see how many blooms I've made over the past 2 years of me making paper flowers. While I have no "garden" it sure hasn't stopped me from pretending like I've had one. The best part is that I didn't have to shell over a ton of money to get the fancy Itoh peonies I create, or the garden roses, or the poppies, or the anthurium... You get the picture hahah!

Bartzella
These fluffy yellow peonies have stolen my heart. Bartzella is an intersectional Itoh peony and in the garden it's a prolific but short lived bloom. Given their short vase life and dramatic presentation, I had to make them in paper.
Ruffled Sunset
I had the chance to drive down to and walk through theirs fields and gardens. It was so inspiring, to see so many different varieties in bloom was like heaven. I took a few stems home from a couple of varieties that I've loved from photos and I finally got to make them from a real model! It's the best! They didn't last long but I took plenty of photos so that I can still make them!

A peek into my studio as I gear up for Mother's day! Yes you heard right, it's time to start thinking about it! It's gonna sneak up on us this year. Let me know which arrangement is your fave in the comments!
Okay! So this is a bit of a departure from my usual posts on here, but I want to introduce y'all to a different side of the Wonky Bloom studio!!
My artistic background started with drawing and printmaking, it's what I have my degrees in. These drawings took a backseat for the last 2 years while I developed my skills with paper flowers. Recently I've come back to drawing and I've realized that I compose my drawings the way I arrange flowers. So these little drawings have become studies and exercises to help inform other parts of my practice! I'll be posting more soon, I'm just so excited to share the new work I've been making.
As the days are getting longer, I'm getting more excited for warmer weather and sunny days. These 'Distant Drums' roses are the perfect pick me up in my studio. They are a favorite of florists both fresh and paper. I will say that they are quite the challenge to execute, but boy oh boy are they worth it! Don't you think?
