Meet Philodendron “Painted Lady” she’s gorgeous! Philodendrons are great for beginners and collectors alike! They are easy to care for and adaptable (with the exception of some super rare and new cultivars). For the most part they are also fast growers which brings great gratification. Plus, they are one of the very collectible families of house plant with a ton of stunning varieties and new ones are always being cultivated. Be sure to come see us on Saturday November 2nd at the Galveston Island Market to see what plant friends you may want to add to your collection!

So excited to be coming back for our third market with Galveston Island Market ! We were able to get our hands on a few real treasures this week despite what we expect will be a nursery shortage for awhile due to Helene and Milton since most of the tropical growers are based in Florida. Our hearts go out to them as they rebuild and we will cherish the plants we can get our hands on in the meantime.

Another new plant coming to the Galveston Island Market tomorrow! We love the easy care of cactus around here and Rainbow Bursts are no exception! These guys produce little offshoots at their base and with proper care will produce beautiful flowers in the spring/summer!

Check out this Syngonium “black velvet”. These guys are great low maintenance plants that can survive the occasional “I forgot to water” and they grow pretty quickly for that instant gratification!

Hey friends, I have a bittersweet announcement! We are leaving our current brick and mortar format at 2626 Market St to go back to a pop-up based business format. We will also be launching a website soon with local delivery options. We will still be working closely with the herself as we make this transition. This little business has morphed before and will morph again before we become the butterfly we know we’re destined to be. Ah, Calathea Stella a beautiful little drama queen! We love her! They like bright but indirect sunlight (think by a window with sheer curtains or by a window that has a covered porch to diffuse some of the intenser sun rays). They should be kept consistently moist but not too much water because they’re prone to root rot (a well draining soil with some orchid bark mixed in will help with this). They love moderate to high humidity, so Galveston is a great home for them!

We’re big fans of collectible plants that are low maintenance. Used to be a philodendron girly through and through. But these guys (Syngonium ‘Black Velvet’) are proving to be fun and easy to care for in our Galveston climate (high humidity)! They like medium to bright indirect sunlight and to be watered once the top of the soil is completely dry. They grow at a rate that will make you feel like an accomplished green thumb even if you aren’t!

Philodendron “Silver Sword” a juvenile leaf vs a mature leaf. Their leaves start as a traditional oval leaf shape and turn into their signature sword shape as the plant matures. These guys are a classic collector philodendron! We have one left in the shop!
