Most poppies only last 3 days in a vase, but Iceland poppies can last up to 7 days. You have to sear the stems by dipping them in boiling water or holding them over a flame, but other than that they are completely unfussy.

Still swooning a little over this Mother’s Day Bouquet. 🥲 Sometimes it’s hard to let the flowers go out the door. But there’s always something new coming on to console me. Tulips are done but irises, Lily of the valley (my fave!), and ranunculus are coming on strong! Late spring subscriptions start next week and there are just a few spots left!

These cold-hardy seedlings have been growing under a double layer of frost cloth all winter. But after the warm days we had in early March, they put out a ton of new grown and I was worried that last week’s cold snap would damage them. I guess I didn’t need to fear! They are flourishing under their not-very protective cover. You might be wondering which flowers can grow through the winter in Buffalo like this? This year I have Larkspur, Corn Cockle, Nigella, Iceland Poppies, Bachelor Buttons, Orlaya, Choclate Lace Flower and Anemones. Most of these I didn’t even plant, I just let them reseed last year!
