Bubbles & Cannons! Let me explain…
-
So, the day we met with this family at these beautiful gardens, there was also a historical reenactment taking place in the field close by. Complete with the firing of a civil war era cannon! 💥
-
Thankfully they wrapped up the demonstration before we started. 😂 Might have been a challenge to make tender family moments with not-so-distant explosions.
-
And bubbles? Well, they brought this awesome little bubble machine for the kids to chase, and that made for some beautiful play pictures and portraits!
-
Fall is almost here… but it’s been a lovely summer indeed. ☀️

Some say that wedding photography is the most challenging form of the art:
You mix portrait, event, formal, journalistic, and macro disciplines all into one fast-moving day, all while shifting between natural day light, indoor ambient, flash, afternoon and evening sunset light. ☀️💡🪟☁️🌅

But the challenge (when met with experience and energy) can also mean a great variety of light and scenes through the day, and a beautiful collection of album-worthy favorites!

☃️What are you looking forward to this winter?
That could be a trickier question to answer than usual, since this year has been rather... um, difficult.
But keeping positive and looking forward is essential to keeping us going. So lets share some winter ideas!
As for me, I’m hoping to have better, longer, and more meaningful conversations (even virtually!) while enjoying some comforting hot drinks.

Another positive activity is some good ol’ fashioned self-care: Aromatherapy, a plush blanket, and perhaps a bit of shea butter from our friend Heidi’s (pictured) new hand-made organics line:

I think I remember trying to balance these rings like ten times before we got them to sit in place for a beautiful fraction of a second. 🤣 Classic We usually take care of ring detail shots at the end of the wedding day or session. As you might imagine, balancing little metal circles is harder during the normal course of the day if the schedule is tight. ? Look down when deciding where to attempt these shots. If you’re trying it on the cute stone railing of a bridge over a river, or there is an open ventilation grate... just remember Murphy’s Law is real. 😅 💍

In our pre-session interview, we talked about things their baby girl loved, and flowers were on top of the list!⁣⁣⠀

So we planned the location accordingly and found little patches of beautiful flowers here and there, and basically just let her go for it! 👧🏻🌸⁣⁣⠀

The pure joy of discovery on a little child’s face is such a priceless (and un-pose-able) expression, filled with happiness. 😊⁣⁣⠀

We deliver roughly a quarter of each gallery in our signature Black & White process, which has a slight touch of warmth in the shadows, and a beautifully deep contrast throughout the entire tonal range.⁣⁣⠀

Just like color images, black and white processing is an art that is open to all sorts of interpretation, and every photographer has their own style of developing and reasons for rendering in monochrome.⁣⁣⠀

Similar in documentary photography, we like to reserve BW for when the focus is on the moment or overall emotion of the scene. ⁣⁣⠀

Without additional color information to direct the viewer’s eye, we’re free to observe the photo as a complete scene first, and explore the details second. Motion becomes more evident, like the shape taken by our lovely bride here, arranging her dress moments before the walk down the aisle.⁣⁣⠀

After changing up the wedding plans earlier this year, there was still an opportunity to make some portraits of the couple in their wedding attire.⁣⁣⠀ ⁣⁣⠀ Actually, it’s pretty nice for the Bride and Groom to do these intimate sessions without the rush of the usual wedding day schedule:⁣⁣⠀ ⁣⁣⠀ There was no reception venue to hurry off to next. No crowds... No pressure of extra eyes or cameras on you...
