“What do you call it when the background is like, all blurry?”⠀ ⠀ That’s kind of the first question beginner photographers ask, because it’s recognized as a hallmark of “professional” photography:⠀ ⠀ A beautifully blurred background behind a sharply focused subject. It was once an artistic effect that only large “pro” cameras could produce.⠀ ⠀ Now, even smartphones can digitally blur a background, cleverly mimicking the way light bends and distorts through glass. ⠀ ⠀ But the real deal is often unmistakeable, especially when we look closer. ⠀ ⠀ And while they may copy features from a professional camera, no smartphone is by itself a substitute for an experienced photographer!*⠀ ⠀ So, what’s it called?⠀ ⠀ The shape and quality of those blurry or out-of-focus areas is called “bokeh”⠀ ⠀ Now you can take that word and Google to your hearts content! 😄⠀ ⠀ Or... learn about everything bokeh and more in your own personal photography course, now available. Link in bio!⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Also, shoutout of course to our lovely couple here, and all their genuine smiles! No use creating beautiful backgrounds without equally beautiful subjects! 👰🏽♀️ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ *Smartphones aren’t a substitute for a real photographer...Well, not until when we give them legs and helicopter wings. Which will be like, what, in 2023? 😅 jk⠀ ⠀ ⠀
