•7:30pm: Feature Presentation of “The 400 Blows” (1959) by François Truffaut
About the Film: “The 400 Blows”
“François Truffaut’s first feature is also his most personal. Told from the point of view of Truffaut’s cinematic (14-year old) counterpart, Antoine Doinel (Jean-Pierre Léaud), The 400 Blows (Les quatre cents coups) sensitively re-creates the trials of Truffaut’s own childhood, unsentimentally portraying aloof parents, oppressive teachers, and petty crime. The film marked Truffaut’s passage from leading critic to trailblazing auteur of the French New Wave.”

About the Host
DANTE SILICATO: (Founder, Director, and Host of Cinem’Avventura) has loved movies since he was barely three years old, when his Dad took him to see “Raiders of the Lost Ark” at the Cinema 5. Over the years, Dante cultivated his passion for film, pursuing writing, acting, and directing in New York City and Los Angeles. He later rotated back to the East Coast where he earned a bachelors and masters degree in history. It was within this strange and eclectic culmination of interests that the vision for Cinem’Avventura was born. Dante always loved movies, especially the independent films of the 1980s and 90s, but his appreciation for Art House Cinema, foreign films, and the auteur filmmaker truly flourished during the conclusion of his graduate studies. He was determined to combine his love for filmmaking as an art form with the exploration of film history throughout the world. The culmination of this endeavor became Cinem’Avventura: A cinematic adventure that transcends time and place, which provides an enlightening and entertaining social event that includes art, music, food, and artistic cinema. Dante resides in Ocean View, Delaware with his wife, Gwendolyn, their son, Emerson, and Frank the dog.
