This is what it looks like when you live with a person who preserves flowers! Drying buds hang from every possible spot with all manner of clips and ties. Drying flowers is a patient process, often taking weeks to be fully dry and ready for use in crafting. These bundles are destined for seasonal wreaths made by workshop participants.
The studio feels bare (for a short while) when I remove all the dried bundles. Soon, we will restock the drying wall in all her glory!

I'm proud and honored to have designed a floral piece shown at the MOWA BLOOM 2024 event! I chose this surreal painting by as my inspiration because I loved the colors and shapes, and because I wanted a challenge that would force me away from my tendency to be literal with my floral interpretations. I also appreciate and wanted to celebrate the marsh and all its bounty. I hope you can see the connections from my choices of flowers, textures, and colors, to those in the painting.

This display would not have been complete without the custom pottery vessel made by ceramicist, Jaime Green, . She absolutely nailed the concept, colors and overall vibe I was hoping to achieve and sent this whole project up to the next level! Thank you, my friend!

Some pretty pressed specimens! Dare ya to try to say that five times fast! 😁

In my experience, pink is one of the best colors of flowers to press. The bright pinks tend to darken and the light pinks tend to lighten. That's a very broad generalization, though! Pressing flowers is a trial-and-error process and some will turn brown, some will fall apart, some will get moldy, but some will look like these! Here we have a mini carnation, larkspur, spray rose, and heather repping the pink fam.

Flower pressing has become a major part of my floral work this past year! I love being able to preserve and display flowers long after their vase life is over. I've started making my own presses with tried and true materials as well as leading workshops to share what I've learned with others! My next workshop is on Friday, November 1 at 10am at MOWA. Historically, the giant sunflower has symbolized splendor, intellectual greatness, misery, and pure and lofty thoughts. But the true meaning is what it means to you!
