We are immensely proud of the D-Day 80 Expedition, a journey that goes beyond commemoration to celebrate the enduring spirit of our veterans. This monumental expedition underscores the profound impact of veterans supporting veterans, fostering unity and resilience.

Our 150km Operation Overlord journey has been deeply personal, with each step and every community welcome leaving a lasting impression on our D-Day80 team. These experiences have highlighted the power of connection and support and underscored the importance of walking for well-being in our expedition.

As Dan Searson aptly puts it, 'The commemoration of D-DAY 80 serves as a poignant reminder of the courage and sacrifices made on the beaches of Normandy. The lighting of the Lamp Light of Peace during this event symbolises our enduring commitment to honour these heroes. This flame illuminates their bravery and fuels our dedication to creating meaningful, immersive experiences that live and breathe history and promote connection and adventure. 80 years ago today, the tide of history turned on the beaches of Normandy. Allied forces, including soldiers from the UK, USA & Canada, launched a daring invasion, paving the way for liberation and a brighter future.

We remember the immense courage, sacrifice, and unwavering resolve of those who fought that day. Their bravery changed the course of history, securing the freedoms we cherish today. ️

Last weekend, we kicked off our D-Day Expedition training in the Lake District. It was an intense and exhilarating experience covering hike training, kit and equipment essentials, safety protocols, camp craft, and outdoor living. We culminated with a thrilling beach landing rehearsal on Grasmere Lake.

Now, we are beyond excited to announce that the incredible Ant Middleton is joining us as our Ambassador for the Challenge The Wild D-Day Expedition in support of Walking With The Wounded! Starting from the historic Chartwell, Winston Churchill’s home, Ant will carry the WW1 Lamplight of Peace onto the beaches of Bernières-sur-Mer and hike across all five D-Day beaches. This expedition is more than just a personal journey—it’s a tribute to bravery, sacrifice, and the relentless spirit of our heroes.

It's a week of positive reflection and direction. We've delivered some fantastic events including hiking and abseiling in The Peaks with HCC Solicitors and a two-day Adventure Retreat for the 18-strong team from HMP Oakwood in the Lakes.

Monday was the perfect start to our D-Day 80 Battlefield Expedition in support of Walking With The Wounded. We became the custodians of the WW1 Lamp Light of Peace during a ceremony at Great Yarmouth Minster. This lamp will travel with us in June via Sir Winston Churchill's home, the stunning National Trust property Chartwell, to the shores of the five Normandy beaches where we are honoured to have been chosen to light the D-Day 80 Lamp Lights of Peace from it's flame.

And as if that’s not enough…there have been some hugely positive developments the last few days as we gear up for the first of our Battlefield Expeditions.

April has been full-on at Challenge The Wild; we are building towards some very significant, commemorative, meaningful, and high-profile events…

Last weekend, we took 15 Prison Officers from HMP Bedford on a two-day CTW Adventure. They hiked Pendle Hill in Lancashire, climbing, abseiling, and problem-solving. They not only escaped the city and gained valuable insights into their capabilities and areas for development, igniting personal growth and creativity, but time in nature also provided opportunities to increase self-esteem.

The CTW premise is simple: our activities promote holistic well-being by encouraging physical activity and providing opportunities for stress relief and mental rejuvenation in the great outdoors.

And they loved it.

It’s a busy week at CTW HQ!

Yesterday we were in Coniston finalising our health & safety risk assessments for this season. If only we had had the same views as in the image!

Tomorrow, we’re delighted to announce that CTW’s founder, Dan Searson, will share his insights on the Enhancing Wellbeing panel at a prestigious pro-manchester event.

On Thursday, we’re thrilled to be spending the day with Walking With The Wounded as we film interviews about our upcoming D-Day expedition. We'll also run through the expedition plan with our incredible charity partner.

We're ending the week on a high note with an exciting adventure retreat. This time, we're partnering with HMP Bedford, a unique opportunity for those attending that promises a memorable experience for all involved.

It was a real honour to be back at Broughton House - Home of Salford and Greater Manchester's Veterans last Friday with the D-Day Expedition Team. It was the first time the team had been together, and what a place to do it. Thank you to Broughton House for your hospitality and a big thank you to BFBS Radio for the interview.

We are all looking forward to returning on completion of the expedition and bringing the Lamp Lights of Peace to the house.

With our D-Day 80 Expedition on the horizon, it was truly humbling and a real honour to visit two 100 year old veterans who took part in Overlord in 1944. David Teacher was one of the first to land on Juno Beach; and Peter Belcher was part of the glider-borne assault on Pegasus Bridge. It was amazing to hear their accounts of that day and share details of our expedition with them.

We’ve had an incredible year. Over 1000 people have joined us on events. We’ve worked with over 60 organisations from the private and public sector; and have helped raise over £250,000 for our charity partners. Thank you to everyone that came on a Challenge The Wild Adventure.
