If there is anything you can do, whether it be purchasing gift vouchers to use at a later date, buying tickets in advance, getting takeaways from independents or donating to any crowdfunders that may pop up, it all helps. This is a desperate time for many of them and we must do all we can to keep these places at the heart of Sheffield culture 💛

- Penny Withers Ceramics 🌿
Sheffield-based ceramicist, Penny Withers has a unique style of combining function and beauty, she use glazes to create stunning landscapes within her ceramics which are only revealed after the firing process, almost like a science experiment. Other pieces explore shapes and balance and through imperfect symmetry evoke a sense of harmony and reflection of the space around us. In her own words, “The wet clay flows through my hands like a river. A single thought is enough to interrupt the stream and cause ripples.”
In January she exhibited ‘Scale’, a collection of monoliths at the Yorkshire Artspace inspired by the Peak District, particularly the dramatic rocky outcrops at Stannage and Curbar Edge, and the local climbers that regularly come face-to-face with these natural formations. If you’ve ever been out to the Peaks you’ll be able to identify the shapes, colours and details that are so unique to this part of the country in Wither’s work.
