Hi, it’s Jess! I own and run Clementine Productions! One of the things I don’t talk enough about is how much I love helping people tell their story. I’ve been told by every therapist I’ve had that I should be a therapist, and I find that making videos has been a great place to hold space for other people.

When you work with us, we want you to feel heard and seen, so that the video we make feels exactly like what you’ve been trying to say, you just don’t have the words. When you’re on set, I want you to feel comfortable and empowered knowing we are your cheerleaders each step of the way.

Clementine Productions only exists because of my network of friends, family, and colleagues who keep referring me to work. That sounds like a line, but it isn’t. Word of mouth has kept my business running.

To be sappy for just ONE HOT SEC, it really has meant the world to me to be able to run this video production company. A video camera gives you the excuse to drop in on so many different worlds, lives, businesses, intimate moments, weddings- and people have given me a glimpse into their lives, dreams, love, and hyper-fixations in a way that continually reminds me how beautiful, diverse, and freaking talented people are.
In the past four years I’ve worked on a documentary about black holes to a government health PSA that ended up on tv to a murder documentary (yikes) to being certified to be on railroad tracks so I can film the Commuter Rail, to filming fine artists, muralists, massage schools, yoga studios, cybersecurity, biotech, construction, masterclass courses, tech animations, vegan cheese, restaurants, law firms, wine stores, board games, and more.
And beyond that my clients end up becoming my friends, my network, my coworkers, because they’re just incredible people that I become huge fans of once I work with them.

I've been behind on 2023 reflections, mostly because I've been recovering from 2023 😂 Clementine Productions, my video production company, did a lot this past year! Here are some #'s.

9 shoots
68 videos (some of which were on TV and Hulu ads!)
230 total video versions

Some video trends I'm seeing:
Libraries - Instead of a shoot that only covers one video deliverable, we started offering polished libraries of footage this year so our clients can create consistent content throughout the year (since #'s is totally the game now)

Professional vs. Unprofessional videography - As UGC and cell phone content dominates feeds, I've seen a need for strategy as much as or more than professional video content. We started offering consultation this year and building out content strategies beyond what we film or edit ourselves.

But beyond that, I'm so proud of what we've built this year. 2023 was the first year I worked with Sabrina Picariello, who has become my project manager and truly my sanity-saver. I didn't know how much it would mean to me to have someone else invested in the well-being of my company, but it has been the biggest boost.

2023, we worked with our first intern, Kiki, who filmed all of Cruel Summer (the parody music video) and came on shoots, was always taking notes, and ended the year acting as lead and translator on our last shoot with a Spanish-speaking business.

I can't wait for this coming year! Let's go 2024!

How we helped: Identifying the goals
🦁 Her story is absolutely essential to the understanding of her brand - Kendalle's husband is south African and started taking her to South Africa on safari when she found her love for wildlife photography. Using her photos, she creates incredibly detailed bespoke prints and prints them on high-quality silk.

Her business mentors all told her YOU NEED A VIDEO to showcase the process, because her process is her differentiator. No one else is flying to Africa to take photos to create prints.

Clementine Productions Process:
Kendalle's brand is high-end, so we looked at examples, Versace, Gucci, and other designers, and landed on a combination of editorial footage of her in her clothes and footage she took in Africa.

Each brand video, I spend lots of time making sure I understand your business and what to highlight. Together, Kendalle and I wrote the script, using my brand video template and we developed a shotlist and storyboard based on artistic inspiration. It's a process filled with a lot of love, attention, and listening to make sure we tell your story in a way that feels right.

I’ve always had a passion for storytelling and filmmaking.

From forcing my friends to be in home videos and taking up photography and playwriting to majoring in Communications with a concentration in film, I think I’ve always known I wanted to make videos.

And after working in house as a videographer, I struck out on my own and founded Clementine Productions.

I wanted a chance to creatively shape the videos I create to be full of joy, creativity, and something that makes people feel.

My goal is to be the opposite of the stereotypical “film bro”, that cliche videographer that wasn’t communicative, acted like video was a black box their clients could never understand, and didn’t focus on their subjects feeling comfortable.

With a background in improv comedy and experience interviewing all kinds of people, my goal is for everyone to feel relaxed, empowered, and confident, and like we are an extension of their team.

🥳 It’s my 30th birthday, and I've been self employed for 4 years, almost 5 cumulatively. Here are a few nuggets I've learned in my 3 decades of life.

• Genuine connection always beats superficial feigned interest. My network is filled with people I genuinely enjoy, and they've become my cheerleaders in ways I never expected.

• Work WITH your brain and not against it. In my case, that meant getting an ADHD diagnosis, and it's completely changed my life. Instead of forcing myself into a mold of what I "should" be like, I've found what works for me, and the benefit is I'm wayyyy more productive.

• Being yourself is deeply important to a sustainable career path. The times when I get burnt out are times I'm not aligning with my personality and strengths.

• Emotional safety leads to creativity! The biggest creativity killer is self-cricitism and judgment. When I'm directing, I always tell the person on camera that it's my job to watch their performance, not theirs. You can't evaluate and create at the same time.

• In entrepreneurship, it can often be feast or famine - either insanely busy or terrifyingly quiet. Uncertainty is one of the most uncomfortable positions to be in, but even in those moments where I'm not sure where my next job will come, I've learned the best thing to be is prepared for the next opportunity that arises.

• Start up and shut down routines are essential for work/life separation. Do I always do them? No! But creating rhythms for my brain to know when work is over has helped me separate what can be an ever permeable barrier between work and life.

So grateful for (almost) 30 years of life, lessons, and small business adventures.

My background is quite the mix, from managing SaaS accounts to running a small business, all the way to diving into the world of creative filmmaking.

But what truly drives me?

It's the art of blending the technical aspects of good filmmaking with genuine storytelling that truly resonates with viewers. Makes them feel something.

Now, let's talk about what happens on-screen.

Whether you're a natural in front of the camera or someone who prefers to stay out of the limelight, my goal is to make you feel comfortable and confident.

Remember my improv theater days?

They've taught me how to bring out your authentic self.

But there's more to me than just business – I'm all about adding a touch of humor and personality too!

Injecting wit, charm, and a dash of the unexpected – it's my way of giving your videos that extra spark.

Oh, and here's a quirky tidbit – I have over 4,000 pictures of cats on my phhone, especially of my two kitten boys- Francis and Hugo.

A little behind the scenes of the making of “Pool Summer”, our Cruel Summer parody.

Summer is my favorite season, but also the most torturous season as an adult, because you have to be responsible and go to work the very hours that are the most beautiful during the day.

But, I also know that delegating your video marketing will make sure you ACTUALLY make a video, And video does amazing things- reduce the time you’re talking to or qualifying leads, you can make a video covering FAQ’s or common objections, which ends up streamlining your processes and saving you time.

So back to the song, I wrote out the song lyrics, and shot ideas, I recorded myself and tried editing together a mix… It took me twice as long as it should have and it was NOT good. It just sat there for weeks.

I knew I wouldn't make it happen without some help. So, I contacted by go-to music producer, Kate Hardly, and film intern, Kiki, to help. I knew I wanted an overhead shot of me in the pool, and there was no way I was going to be able to film myself in a pool easily. And, I’m pretty terrible at rhythm.

Without their help, I know I wouldn't have gotten it done (and it wouldn't have come out as good)!

The result? My Cruel Summer Parody! Did you catch it?!

It was a blast to make, and more importantly, it highlighted the power of delegation. Just as crafting that video let me capture the summer spirit, our video services can help your business shine. 🧢 I'm no stranger to wearing many hats and running my business single-handedly.

I'm the accountant and marketer and salesperson and owner. It's a lot!
