Eucalyptus leaves Eucalyptus is a genus of over 700 species of evergreen flowering trees, shrubs, or mallees in the myrtle family, Myrtaceae.

Eucalypts originated between 35 and 50 million years ago. Most species of Eucalyptus are native to Australia. Species of eucalyptus are cultivated widely in the tropical and temperate world including the Americas, Europe, Africa, the Mediterranean Basin, the Middle East, China, New Guinea, Indonesia, and the Indian subcontinent. They have adapted to fire, and resprout after it or have seeds that s

urvive the fire. Nearly all eucalyptus are evergreen, but some tropical species lose their leaves at the end of the dry season. Eucalypts are grown in plantations since they are fast-growing and have valuable timber, or can be used for pulpwood, honey production, or essential oils. Also, they are widely used in floristry.
