This precious little angel in the form of a dog just came and alerted Jeff and me. She was sleeping like this in the picture and got up, came into the living room to find us (we have been up watching her blood sugar rise) and alerted to me. She never ceases to amaze us! We checked, verified her high, treated and had a puppy party and she got back on her bed and laid herself down! Transitioning into becoming a service dog family can be tricky (mostly because of the humans messing up), but these beautiful moments just make it so special! We love this pup so much already and she’s definitely the perfect fit for us!

I have to share again. I’ve tried to slow down a little so y’all don’t get sick of seeing us. So, yesterday on Stephanie’s last day here 😭 (she’s absolutely precious), Hannah started practicing piano and Hope did not like it one bit! She ran out of the room like a rocket! She had never been exposed to a piano before, so she just had to have some help through it. So, Stephanie Bowen just took right over and worked with her just a little and she was already fairly tolerant of it. I was super concerned at first, because I didn’t know if she would be able to go to Hannah’s lessons or not. Stephanie then worked me through it 😉 and instructed me how to work Hope through it. Let me tell you, Hope was a champ! She barely moved and the one time she did, it was when the next child came for his lesson. This is just the best experience ever! It is a definite change that takes a little getting used to, but it is the most rewarding and amazing experience that we feel extraordinarily blessed to have!

Check out this precious little hero! This within 24 hours of working with her on this!

More training today! Hope has done such a great job already! Still amazing! We have been training and took a break for lunch. Hope started alerting Hannah when we first sat down to eat and she was still in range, so we told her we would watch it. We checked again two more times because she has kept alerting. Y’all. 45 Fourty five, FOURTY FIVE minutes later, Hannah was out of range! What an amazing experience this has been. We are going to be able to keep Hannah in range much longer, keeping her a1c down lower than it even needs to be, further extending her health and life. Best thing ever.

A special message from Hannah. 🥰

Hope already alerted to Hannah! She is exhausted from travel and being in strange places, so we had to wake her a little, but she smelled Hannah and alerted to a high! This is so amazing!!!

28/03/2022

So I pulled it off! We surprised Hannah with Hope 3 days early! We will be busy training this week, but that also provides lots of videos! We will be sure to share.

Hope’s custom service dog vest is in!!! She even modeled it for us! Hannah designed this herself. We are just days away from getting this precious pup! Again, thank you to everyone who has helped in any way! We could not have done this without every single one of you! We are looking forward to meeting her and showing everyone how much you have changed Hannah’s life for the better with Hope!

After Hannah’s diagnosis, she got a terrible stomach virus and I had just given her a TON of insulin for her oatmeal. That and everything else came up and then we couldn’t keep her blood sugar over 40. We had to rush her to the hospital to save her life. Even her emergency meds wouldn’t have saved her. I have this anxiety and ptsd now. Every time she goes low, I fall into panic mode. The struggle is real.

Kristi shares the story of her anxiety surrounding hypoglycemia, how she came to name the issue and how she has grown in the face of adversity.

Due to some miscommunication and human error on my part, I’ve found out that 8 donors to our original go fund me were refunded their money this week. If you were one of those donors, we apologize and if you would like to be sure we get the money, as many have requested, we have other ways to donate. We do still have several items to get for Hope and will have insurance on her that will be $35/month.

Meanwhile, isn’t Hope just so stinking cute???

Thank you, again to everyone who has helped us on this journey!

Many thanks to all who bought tickets and have been so supportive! Here is a pic Michael Kendall, the winner of the AR-15 as he picked up his gun! Thank you, again everyone for your love and support. We could not have done this without each one of you!

Thank you to everyone that supported our Hannah on this journey. We couldn’t have done it without everyone of you. 5 months ago we stepped out in faith with this huge goal and here we are.
What a blessing!! We are so honored by the outpouring of support.
Hope comes to us in March. Be sure to follow the journey once she gets here.

Soooo grateful!
Thanks to Banting and Best's discovery of insulin, Hannah is alive today!
Before their discovery, diabetics... simply didn't survive!
Diabetes - especially what we now know as Type 1 insulin-dependent diabetes - was ... a death sentence!
Weeks, months at the most before that fit, healthy, active child or teenager or young adult... was dead!
Banting and Best "sold" their patents for $1, because insulin was meant to be a gift to the world!
Millions and millions of us have received life as a result!
Tragically, insulin has meanwhile become a posterchild of pharmaceutical industry greed: but it was *intended* for everyone!
So celebrate with me 100 years since the discovery of insulin: whether for yourself, your kid/kids or for someone you know or knew!
1 in 11 has diabetes. 1 in 2 don't know. Do you know the symptoms?
Diabetes is no longer the automatic death sentence it was for most of humanity's existence!
Today is a GOOD day!
For all of us! 💙 🌟👏🙌

When your diabetic daughter’s Dexcom (that has only been in for 2 of the 10 day life span of this sensor) gets caught in the swing and she comes in with this…. Her face says it all.

10/11/2021

This is so exciting.

09/11/2021

Hannah was high all night and I had to dose her several times to try to keep her sugar under control. This morning she realized her pump wasn’t working right when she smelled the insulin. This is somewhat common, but can end up putting her in a very life threatening situation quickly if we don’t catch it soon enough. So thankful she smelled the insulin! The only problem with this is, I gave her a bunch of insulin for a meal and now I have no idea how much got into her body and how much escaped. Ugh.

This is a HUGE and common misconception about type 1. I have had many people try to school me about this very thing while out and they see Hannah eating whatever she wants. I kindly and gently inform them of the actual facts.

For those of you who don’t know, Adam Duvall is a Type 1 Diabetic like Hannah. He plays with his insulin pump in his back pocket most games (as seen in the pic below). He has his Continuous Glucose Monitor attached during games as well. So many kids who are diagnosed with T1D struggle with feelings of despair and wonder if they will be able to fulfill their dreams of whatever they want to do. Eyes up, kids, Adam Duvall just hit a grand slam in the World Series. You can do anything, even with T1D.

Great job, Atlanta Braves!

02/11/2021

November is diabetes awareness month. The biggest thing I want to share first is that type 1 diabetes is NOT genetic. It is AUTOIMMUNE! I didn’t realize that as Hannah was showing signs of diabetes (extreme thirst and hunger and excessive urination, along with stomach pain). Because I didn’t know type 1 was NOT genetic, I didn’t get her treatment as soon as she needed and her diagnosis came with her being in diabetic ketoacidosis. A very dangerous medical condition. Any child, and even some adults can develop it and most pediatricians either don’t know, or don’t educate parents on this. My goal is to make more people aware!

30/10/2021

So, the electronic hard equipment we have for Hannah (pump and Dexcom, her continuous glucose monitor) are wonderful to have and we are very thankful for them. However, when they don’t work, specifically her continuous glucose monitor (CGM), it is absolutely maddening!!! We have had scary low glucose alerts all day and they have all been way off. Finger sticks all day is also frustrating because we are supposed to be able to dose her from her Dexcom. If we dosed Hannah from how her Dexcom has been reading these last 24 hours, she would be in diabetic ketoacidosis by now! This, again, is why we have taken on this seemingly monumental task of fundraising to get Hannah a Diabetic Alert Dog (DAD). This sweet dog, Hannah named Hope is currently training to be said DAD and we are super excited to get her early next spring. Please share, share, share! If you can donate, we would be humbled and honored. We have taken down our go fund me for now and will create another one soon. We do have other ways for donating, as well. We are also selling t-shirts, gun raffle tickets and Christmas ornaments. Thank you all for your love and support!

29/10/2021

So, it is a VERY rare occasion that we get a “break” overnight. The problem with these breaks is that it always seems inevitable that we will have some kind of problem. Jeff’s parents are the only ones who will keep her overnight and I always feel so bad because we almost always get up with her in the night. They are 80 years old and don’t need to deal with that. So here, we get a phone call from Sugarmate, the app that follows her continuous glucose monitor. It is saying she was 80, then 5 minutes after that it said she was at 49, and 5 minutes after it showed 66, and 72 just after that. Progressively going back up with no treatment. 🤦🏼‍♀️ So now my precious in laws are up at 2:20am doing a finger stick on Hannah and treating, if needed. So her finger stick is 159!!! No alarms or phone calls needed. Dear Lord, we REALLY need to get this dog funded ASAP!
