This my first year attending Westside Rising’s Holiday Soirée! This year the theme is “Better Together”.
Baby, I’m too excited! 🙌🏾

It’s more than an event — it’s a whole community vibe celebration type thing. Every year, the West Side and some of its supporters comes together to celebrate our people — the leaders, organizers, and everyday heroes out here putting in real work for the streets, the babies, and the culture. 💯

This year’s theme is “Better Together,” because when we link up, love up, and lift each other — everybody wins! ❤️🖤💛

What theu got going on? :

🍽️ Good food, Good drinks, Good energy

💃🏾 Best dressed stroll (Come Showi out!)

This past Thursday, Westside Rising and partners at Bethel New Life had the youth out to celebrate the Doors to Destiny project —a collaborative campaign by BUILD Chicago and Welder Underground that’s transforming communities across Chicago through art, imagination, and purpose.

Each door installation is co-created by youth, artists, and community members — standing tall as symbols of pride, resilience, and new beginnings. These aren’t just murals; they’re open invitations to dream, to grow, and to believe in what’s possible when education, employment, wellness, and creativity come together.

The artwork unveiled today — “Be the Light” and “Be the Love” — remind us that every heart has the power to nurture, uplift, and spark change 🌱❤️. Watching the kids sign words like faith, determination, love, and community on the base of these installations was a powerful reflection of that truth.

We will be with Live Free tomorrow in Springfield to urge lawmakers to prioritize the “Clean Slate Act” before it’s too late.
Illinoisans who have served their time and rebuilt their lives shouldn’t be trapped by old records that block access to jobs, housing, and opportunity.
The Clean Slate Act would give thousands across our state a fair chance to move forward — but time is running out. With the veto session ending on October 30th, we need our legislators to act now. Like rite nie!!!

2.2 million Illinoisans have an arrest or conviction record that is eligible for records relief, but only 10% of those eligible have started the process. Pursuing record sealing and expungement can be complicated and costly, and having a record creates significant barriers to employment, housing, education and more. If an old record is preventing you from living a life without discrimination based on your past, then this is for you too Darling! We all got some folks with a record trying to do better

Clean Slate Illinois is working to make record clearance automatic: when a person becomes eligible for relief, their record gets cleared. That means no lengthy process, no paying an attorney, no court appearance.
