I honestly think one of the single best moments of my life was on my 40th birthday when I had over 50 butts all twerking for me at my Sa$$ Yer A$$ 4:20 birthday set, all I could do was scream in delight! Haha!!! IFYKYK!!! 😂

A few years back my friend HaliMa DuSa gave me the DJ pseudonym Sa$$ Yer A$$ to describe the more diiiirty, salacious, and rump shakin’ side of my catalog of music & BassWitch 8.0 tomorrow night is one such occassion to dip into my secret stash of nasty-nasties, my friends!

I’ll be MC’ing the Twerk Contest once again and then capping out the night w/ a Sa$$ Yer A$$ BassWitch edition special set. Thank you to everyone who’s been a part of this wild BassWitch journey with me over the last two years. Good news....one of our favorite baddies is back and ready to throw down, please welcome to the BassWitch stage, CHIXY GUAP!

Chixy has been a longtime fan of our headliner, Smasheltooth, whose influence on the west coast bass scene has been unmatched. When she made her first mix 2.5 years ago, she randomly sent it to her (even though she didn't know her at the time) just to see if she'd give any feedback. She ended up not only giving her feedback but reposting and helping her get her first gigs! Fast forward a couple years to this Friday night, and we got a dream tag team ready to bounce the bootays of Portland proper! This story also speaks to the power of women supporting women in this industry......just like we like it!!! 💪

CHIXY GUAP aka Kelsey is a Global Club DJ and producer who channels her sound from the trapical ratchetverse. A fan of heavy bass, fresh world sounds and 🎶 that generally makes you go “DAAMMMMNNN," she has a highly intuitive way of keeping the room bumpin' with a variety of genres. Since starting her DJ career in 2021, CHIXY's already been fortunate to play well-known venues and festivals across the US, Mexico, and beyond.

CHIXY GUAP is originally from the suburbs of Minneapolis, MN, where hot music is the only thing that keeps people warm in the cold. Kelsey's been privileged to travel extensively and her selects reflect the wide range of sounds and voices she’s been exposed to. She’s particularly fond of femme-forward rap, music in Spanish and Portuguese, sounds from the African Diaspora and basically anything underground that makes your chest vibrate. She also worked the Ampitheatre Stage at Shambhala Music Festival for several years and been influenced by dozens of up-and-coming bass connoiseurs and legends alike.

Ooooh, hot damn are we excited to welcome Smasheltooth to the BassWitch 8.0 stage!!! Underground Bay Area DJ legend Smasheltooth has been responsible for poppin’ bottles and booties on the dancefloor since the golden dubstep era of 2008. Known for pioneering the rap and trap movement in the bass community, she has grown accustomed to getting kicked off the stage and blacklisted for her fierce tenacity and love for reggae, punk and rap music in an arena that was initially reluctant to open up to these genres.

Smasheltooth uses a blend of bass, world music, street punk, old school classics, balloon animals, and epic PeeWee Herman-esque dance moves to question the tradition of the untouchable DJ in an attempt to make everyone feel welcome and instill a sense of community, playfulness, and openness to new musical experiences.

Smasheltooth is a regular headlining DJ in the West Coast bass scene! She released her debut EP in 2023 on woman-owned independent label MalLabel Music & we are so f’n stoked to have her throwin’ it down proper for BassWitch’s season two closing event!

It was recently brought to our attention that a woman in the Portland community has made public claims about the poster art image for the upcoming BassWitch 8.0 event, saying the image was made in her likeness and making accusations of malicious intent and theft.

Let us set the record straight. This art is a 100% original commissioned piece of graphic art made by designer Mike Friolo (https://www.mfds71.com/). Here is his personal statement: “As for the respect of intellectual property: I as an artist, graphic designer, & creative director, respect the intellectual property of others and make an effort in my 30+ years of work, to be aware and sensitive to appropriating or designing anything that offends or is disrespectful to any individual or group. In the case of the art for BassWitch the image is a collaboration between the promotors and myself. Taking cues from the promotors and what they aspire the event to be. I created the hand drawn art and used my daughter as the muse and the subject (see personal photo below), using source materials to draw inspiration to create the original art. Any likeness to whom the art has been mistaken for or certain individual is purely coincidental and was NOT plagiarized or stolen. Thank you.”

There was no attempt by this woman to reach directly before these false claims were made public on Facebook. Another inaccuracy in her claim is that she was blacklisted—we have no idea why she would have come to this conclusion. We have never blacklisted anyone.
