Back to school, back to work, back to the routines. But there is still time to enjoy the good things summertime had to offer! ☀️🏄

Outside it's still warm, the sun shines (most of the time), and lush green abounds in nature. The river Dommel is teeming with life, but it is also a peaceful place inside the busy Eindhoven.

All good reasons for me and Paula (a.k.a Supcoach) to go in the water for another Stand Up Paddle Experience, combining exploring with some quiet . 🦫👉Already this Saturday 24 august, starting at 13:30.

We can feel the seasons are changing. 🌻Since a few weeks now, in the tree next to my house, a sings loudly every morning and evening. He is trying to attract a female blackbird's attention to its beautiful song. And so do many robins, wrens, blue t**s and other song birds in every park around us. Treecreepers and nuthatches climb up and down the trees preparing nests and looking for food.

It's a wonderful time of the year to experience the beauty of . 🐦 That's why I am organizing once more this year a short to help everyone recognize how the most common birds look and sound.

This summer Wild Eindhoven is proposing a different way of being in . A different perspective to a city, immersed in its blue and green.

I am partenering up with Paula van Loon, from Supcoach to bring you a Stand Up Paddle experience! 🏄‍♀️ We combine the best of both worlds: supping & mindfulness combined with a mini wildlife safari.

No experience is needed, as Paula will instruct you on the basics. And it's really easy to learn and start paddeling!

The first event is happening this Wednesday 7 June. Around 19h we meet, have a short welcome and explanations, then we go on the quiet waters of the . It is a perfect way to relax during the week, and June is a great month to see wild animals and plants from the water!

The other two upcoming dates are Friday 7 July and Friday 9 September. They are already online on Wild Eindhoven website as well.

What an SUPer adventure on the water it was! 🌊And an amazingly different way to see and feel the city...

Immersed in the sounds of the reed warblers, calling from both sides of the river. Witnessing little baby grebes already swimming along with their parents. Picking and smelling some fresh water mint growing on the river margins. And yes, once more, we had a lucky encounter with two of the most famous river residents: the kingfisher and the beaver! 🦫😃

All of this during last Wednesday's Mindfulness & Wildlife Stand Up Paddle experience, one of the best ways to end your workday.

My favorite moment happened when we were laying down in our board, letting ourselves be taken by the soft current of the river. I was watching the many swifts flying high above, listening to the birds singing hidden in the vegetation, feeling the soft breeze on my skin. Just letting nature exist around us.

Thank you all who joined for your energy, enthusiasm and stories! You were such a nice group of different nationalities and backgrounds.

I'm already looking forward to next month's SUP experience! 🔹Coming Wednesday 7 June at 19:00, we'll meet on the water and look for wildlife! Look for more information in Wild Eindhoven's website.

Everyone is welcome to join. No previous experience is needed at all, Paula (Supcoach) will help you with all the way!

This past weekend we had the first real days of Spring! And that could be felt also in all the activity in nature: there are 🐦🐦🐦 singing and chatting everywhere! 🎶

Robins, blackbirds, wrens, great- and blue- t**s, treecrepers, nuthatches and many others singing their hearts out, announcing their territory and their fitness!

The for the Water Boards (Waterschapen) 🌊 in the Netherlands are tomorrow, March 15th. 👉 *Everyone* living in the country can vote, including internationals.

and surroudings are included in the De Dommel. With our vote, we internationals can also help to shape policy and practice about how water is managed in our region in important things such as drinking water, sewage treatment (and associated taxes), managing groundwater levels for nature and agriculture.

A few weeks ago I accompanied Mado Ruys on an interview for Radio 4 Brainport. I talked about the importance of water, the challenges ahead with longer draughs and sudden rains, and why nature and farming should not be seen as in conflict. And of course why voting for the waterboard elections matters!

The elections for the Water Boards (Waterschapen) 🌊 in the Netherlands are coming up: on March 15th, 👉 everyone 👈 living in the Netherlands (yes, including / ) can vote!

And why do I care about this?

The Waterboards determine, and often execute the policies for management in this country. From making sure there is enough drinking water available, to regulating the groundwater level for farming and , to how natural rivers and canals should be. And all of this has a direct implication on and .

Some examples (from an original post by Trefpunt Groen Eindhoven):

🌊Water boards ensure that we are protected from water, for example by building and caring for dikes. This is important, especially given the increasing rise in water levels.

🌧️ The Netherlands also wants to retain water where it can, so that during times of low rainfall, we still have a supply in the soil. That helps biodiversity.

🚿 The water boards are also tasked with ensuring that sewage water is treated. Our sewage water is treated at the treatment plant on Van Oldebarnelveltlaan.

🦫 This purified water ends up in De Dommel and then flows into the Meuse. The cleaner the water in De Dommel and other rivers, the more flora and fauna we can expect.

Tomorrow 2 March, from 20:00 in the Tu/e Auditorium, there is a debate with the main parties running up for election for "our" Waterboard: Waterschap De Dommel. The debate is in 🇳🇱 Dutch, however...

How do animals find 💞? How do they find a proper place to live/nest and and choose a right partner?

That was the motto of today's Valentine's Day at the High Tech Campus Eindhoven! 💚

Dancing pairs of crested greebes, male coots fighting each other, magpies and woodpeckers building or preparing their nests. The signs of coming spring are slowing making their way. :)

Today, I learned something new: Although the most common name in Dutch for Jackdaws (first picture) is Kauw, they are also called "torenkraai" - tower crows!

And apparently every church tower in Eindhoven and surroundings has a jackdaw colony living under its tower's roofs!

This interesting bit was on IVN Veldhoven Eindhoven Vessem article in GrootEindhoven. :)

Our first Wild Escape 🦅 is scheduled!

On Sunday 19 February escape the city and join me for a longer (picnic included) in two of Eindhoven's best natural areas: the Stratumse Heide and Gijzenrooise Zegge.
