Loving Honduras… what does that mean? Perhaps supporting each other?

It isn’t often that we talk publicly about our mistakes, but if more of us chose to share, maybe we’d feel a bit less alone.

So that’s exactly what I’m doing today!

There have been numerous times I’ve made mistakes in my career as a honduran artist, but I’ve learned from each and every one of them.

The first one that comes to mind is bending over backwards to try and please venues who want to profit from my guided classes and not the traffic that I bring in! Though it was hard to recover from many doors shut at the beginning, the lesson I learned was an important one: I can’t make everyone happy and especially I can’t make my clients pay extra when they will sip and dine at a place where we will paint anyway! Last group we had spent over $1500 in less than 2 hours eating and drinking 😀

Why can’t we all support each other especially if one’s beginning?

Of course there’s more I could share, but for now, this seemed like a good place to start. Writing this post was almost as scary as learning to dive! but that means I’m growing!

I’ll stick to my business coach’s advice who not only is my business coach but FRIEND: Let them (venues) reach out to you not the other way around!

She also bought most of my everyday tools including the ones on this picture! 🤍

I always love making new friends, so I figured I’d (re)introduce myself!

My name is Melissa and I’m a Honduran artist located in West Bay - Roatan.

I started guiding painting classes a couple of days ago and it has been a great!

A little known fact about me is that I am an Advanced Open Water Diver (married to a Diving Instructor) and therefore LOVE painting things we’ve spot together like the whale shark I recently guided and the Spotted Eagle Ray which is next on my agenda!

We are all born artists, we somehow believe that we have lost it as we grow older.

It’s a lie. You still have it in you!

All my life, no matter what I do, people gift me the words: You’re an Artist.

I am visual. Presentation is key. My mind is built that way. That’s why even when I cook the most simple dish, I serve it with respect and treat it as art, yes! Colors taste good ☺️

But I also recognize the art in everybody too!

My hubby swears he is not artistic, yet the way he dives, almost in a hypnotic way or dance, is art to me too!!! The videos he takes, pure art in all forms and shapes! He’s an artist too!

So this post is just a reminder!

What gets you out of bed every morning?

I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that I’m partly by the smell of my morning coffee, but truly—mostly—I get out of bed to show my daughter what it looks like to chase your dreams and there’s no feeling on earth better than that.

🌈 She might be to small to remember how Rainbow Art Studio was born but I won’t. She is the reason behind my why.

The minute she was born I was ready to birth all the dreams I once had that seemed impossible. After all, I was told too many times I was infertile. And here she is 7 months later. She is not a rainbow baby, she is a miracle baby. My only and first pregnancy.

I have been told too many times I can’t live from Art, but miracles in my life happen everyday. She is the miracle everyday and I am ready to peruse this career in Art because it is my passion and she is my purpose.

🌼When’s the last time you fueled your passion?

I can’t say I do it enough, but one of my favorite ways to recharge is to go to the beach alone and read a book.

Every time I do it, I’m happy I did! I even take notes of the things I learnt or caught my attention.

People who do bible studies also do this because that is what fuels their heart! I usually tend to buy art books or feminism reads! This book caught my attention when a graphic designer that I admire so much recommended it. I now recommend it too!

What do you do to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life?

Those seeds need nurturing, care, and time to grow before they turn into the plant they’re intended to be💛

I’m so excited about what I’m up to this week!

💛After a ton of shipping logistics , I’m finally finishing all my purchases to launch this dream!

messaged me yesterday and I am finally buying the brushes you deserve for each 2 hour-guided class with me!

I am also finally shipping from El Salvador, the most breathtaking easels I’ve ever seen!

I’m feeling unstoppable at this point! Everything seems to be aligning and I can NOT wait!

On the meantime, we are finishing some painting touches on my first home here in Roatan.
