It's no secret that flower farmers in the cooler climates feel all sorts of angst about 2/3 of the biggest flower holidays falling in the "no grow zones." (Valentine's + Christmas, but also some of the time Mother's Day 😑)

There are some ways around it - forcing tulips, for instance - but most of us are left counting down the days 'til Spring.

Some fresh cuts for our Bouquet Subscribers 😎

Cutting for subscriptions is one of my very favourite jobs on the farm.

It starts with strolling the rows to choose the *very best* of our blooms. Then we lovingly harvest & arrange those beauties into a perfect snapshot in time of what's in season.

A regular bouquet delivery to your door is about way more than just the beautiful flowers, though - it's about self-care. It's about lifting the spirits and honoring your home (no matter what state it's in).

When is the best time to place an order for flowers?

‌

As soon as you know you need them!

Whether it’s 2 months, 2 weeks, or 2 days before; place your order with lots of time to spare, so you’re less stressed (and don’t forget)!

All of our flowers are cut fresh to order, so placing you order at a minimum 24 hours prior gives us lots of time to properly curate your bouquet and condition the flowers so that they achieve their longest vase life.

Need 'em a little more last minute?

We get it— some of life’s occasions can’t be predicted in advance (ex. sympathy arrangements).

We can still accommodate most orders that are placed by 10am on the day they’re needed.

What flowers will be available on [insert date here]?

Short answer: we have no idea!

And we know that’s probably not the answer you were looking for. So let us explain a bit further:

Just like fruits and vegetables grown in your home garden, flowers have distinct seasons too.

Some flowers have a very limited window of opportunity (ex. Peonies for 2-4 weeks) and others are here with us for a little bit longer (ex. Sunflowers for 3-4 months). Some like cool weather (ex. Ranunculus) and others prefer the hot, hazy days of peak season (ex. Zinnias).

So when we say that we are a “seasonal flower farm” it means that we only get to play with what is actually growing in our fields at the time of your order. This might mean that Dahlias aren’t here one week, but show up the next.

Learning to embrace seasonality is part of the fun of choosing locally grown flowers— the proverbial “box of chocolates” if you will; you never know what you’re going to get.

But we promise it will be beautiful!

June is hands-down our favourite month of the growing season— each and every flower just seems to be oozing with romantic, cozy-cottage charm.

Designing For Weddings Vs. Everyday Flowers: What’s the Difference?

When we choose blooms for wedding bouquets, we’re looking for show-stopping premium flowers at their peak ripeness so that they enhance your venue space and make you and your photographs look absolutely amazing!

For that reason, they’re not intended to last much longer than the 24 hour period of your big day.

Wedding flowers also require A LOT of extra care, labour, and design expertise-- and the higher cost will reflect that.

We switch gears for everyday floral design; we’re looking to harvest at that pivotal moment which allows the flowers to open over time in your home and achieve the longest possible vase life.

They’re intended to act as an element of your home decor and enhance your living space. Expect at least a week of enjoyment.

“How do I order flowers from Cold Springs Flower Farm?”

We get that as a non-traditional source for flowers, you may be wondering if it’s complicated to order from us.

Not at all!

We’ve done our best to make sure the online ordering process is as easy as possible. And here’s the even better news…you don’t need to know anything about flowers, to order flowers. (Cue sigh of relief!)

Here’s how it works in 4 easy-peasy steps:

1 - head to our website and navigate to the “shop” tab.

2 - browse by occasion to select the blooms that beckon to you.

3 - add to cart.

4 - enter your info (or the info of your recipient, if you’re having them delivered) and complete the checkout process.

Ta-da: you’re done!

The farm stand is open this Saturday, June 24th at 9am!

Ranunculus lovers rejoice: we'll have plenty of mixed bunches of freshly cut stems available for $25 each.

It's not unheard of for these stems to achieve 10+ days in the vase. Resembling a rose in appearance, these spectacular flowers are a customer favourite for very good reason!

This is likely to be our last big Ranunculus harvest for the year, so get 'em before they're gone! ❤️‍🔥

Meet Our Founder, Kelsey Jibb:

I’m a 5th generation farmer, and a lover of all things agriculture. I adore bright, bold colour and the smell of freshly baked chocolate chips cookies. Watching the sun rise in my flower field with a hot cup of coffee in hand is my idea of paradise.

When I’m not flowering or wrangling my 3 kids, you’ll find me in the kitchen experimenting with a new recipe while singing along to 80’s/90’s pop-rock. I’m a self-proclaimed bird nerd, and have read the Lord of the Rings trilogy at least 20 times.

I’ve been obsessed with flowers since I was a little girl. Whether it was bringing home my Mom a handful of droopy lilacs on the walk home from school, memories of fluffy pink carnations on my Nana’s table, or cutting the very first of my own homegrown flowers 10 years ago— I’ve always cherished the act of growing, harvesting and gifting flowers.

I believe in the power of flowers to not only mark special occasions, but to enhance those simple, everyday moments that make life extraordinary.

This is the work of a lifetime, and I’m so glad you're here with me to experience the magic of locally grown flowers!
