Behind the Avenue
Planning events has always been a passion of mine. My earliest memory of planning comes from seventh grade when the 2004 Indiana Ocean tsunami occurred. I remember watching broadcast after broadcast playing the videos of people running from the beach and the tsunami waves overcoming everything and everyone in its path. Once returning to school after the holidays, a group friends and I organized a middle school dance as a fundraiser. I remember planning the details of advertising, organizing the DJ, hanging decorations, and even greeting our peers as their parents dropped them off at the entrance to the gymnasium. We raised over a thousand dollars that was donated to UNICEF. This might seem like a old timer’s story (do schools even host dances anymore?), but it is the first memory of doing something that I loved!! Planning brought entertainment and excitement to my school while impacting lives, quite literally, around the world.
Special events continued to be a main interest, so much so that five years later I went to college for hospitality management. In addition to gaining experience in hotel, restaurant, and special event management, while at IUP I was extremely involved within Greek Life. This was a transformative experience for me. Upon graduating I went to Bloomsburg University for a masters degree in educational leadership and college student affairs. This was an opportunity of a lifetime because I realized could work in higher education and positively influence students’ collegiate experiences while fulfilling my passion of planning events.
I recently moved to the central Pennsylvania area with over ten years of experience in event planning with both private and public events. My experience is developed from a wide variety of events include business meetings, carnivals, tournaments, holiday parties and festivities, weddings, receptions, reunions, community fairs, and charity fundraisers. I have coordinated business meetings for four people to community festivities with 2,000 people in attendance.
