Nov 2: All Souls Day, also called Giorno dei Morti or Commemorazione dei defunti, the day in which we remember our beloved departed.
All Souls Day is usually spent visiting the graves of our dear ones at the cemetery, bringing them flowers (chrysanthemums) and cherishing their memory.
In some Italian regions, on the eve of All Souls Day, families prepare la Tavola dei Morti (table of the dead) and the kitchen table is decked with a special meal for the souls of their loved ones and left overnight.

Celebrating Italian Heritage Month with Mother Cabrini! 🇮🇹

Today we honor the incredible legacy of Mother Cabrini, the first American saint and Patroness of Immigrants. Born Maria Francesca Saverio Cabrini in 1850 in Sant'Angelo Lodigiano (Province of Lodi), she grew up inspired by the stories of missionaries and founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in 1880.

In 1889, at the request of Pope Leo XIII, she arrived in New York to help the wave of
Italian immigrants, quickly organizing schools, orphanages, and hospitals across the U.S. and beyond. Over her lifetime, she founded 14 American colleges, 98 schools, 28 orphanages, and more, traveling the world to uplift those in need. 🌍🇮🇹

In 1946, she was canonized as the first American saint by Pope Pius XII, a powerful testament to her enduring legacy.

Did you see the film Cabrini? NIAF proudly supported the film that tells the inspiring story of Mother Cabrini and the immigrant experience.
