Hoʻomaikaʻi Kai!

Kai earned his second-degree adult black belt earlier this month. The test was 72+ hours long, with a portion of it being held on Catalina Island. This was by far the most physically and mentally challenging accomplishment for him. I am definitely a proud mama.

I hope to age as gracefully and as beautifully as this plumeria. Isn't this old girl absolutely stunning? I think that she's gorgeous and that her colors are so lovely at this stage. Does anyone else agree?

I found this rare beauty while picking bougainvillea. It's one flower that is two different colors and the colors are almost perfecly symmetrical on two of the bracts. I feel like it's the equivalent of finding a four leaf clover. Isn't she gorgeous?!

Here's a bit of BTS before a lei is created. I don't always have an exact pattern in my head when I start an order. Oftentimes, I just look at the flowers and let them work their own magic. I admire each beautiful bloom and consider what looks most pleasing when placed next to each other, then I just go with the flow and create. ✨️

CSULB had a cultural graduation specifically for Pacific Islander graduates, and these pictures were from that event.

Aloha, everyone! I have a lot of new faces, and I thought this would be a great time to do a quick introduction of myself to both new and old followers. I'm Christina, and I'm a Native Hawaiian / Samoan lei maker located in Los Angeles, California. I'm originally from the North Shore on O'ahu. I grew up surrounded by tropical flowers and plants and have always been drawn to all the brightest flowers, plants, and tropical fruits that Hawai'i has to offer. Creating fresh flower art in the form of a lei has become a life passion for me. It is an honor to share a part of my culture with you by creating a lei for you and your loved ones. Thank you to all of my followers, both near and far. I love and appreciate you all!

I also need to mention that graduation season is the absolute busiest time of the year for me. I've been traveling this past week for Lei Day, and I'm trying my best to respond to everyone who has reached out regarding graduation orders. Mahalo nui for your patience!

Group photo of the last lei po'o workshop held .earth . Our next workshop is this Saturday, 04/20/24, at 11 am. Learn how to make your very own Hawaiian lei po'o (head lei). There are still a few spots left, so come join in on the fun! All materials provided and no experience needed. This is an eco-friendly activity with no wires, tape, or glue used. Perfect way to celebrate Earth Day! 🌎

Throw back to September of 2022! I had the opportunity to freelance for for the event! It was such a fun filled day with teaching lei making to the sweetest little girls. I also met the lovely , and I gifted her the bougainvillea lei that she's wearing.

So fun working with , you gals are the best. Thank you, , for trusting us to run this event for you.

This was also the same day that & I visited a butterfly vivarium together. The last picture is of us at the entrance of the vivarium. We saw the word aloha and had to catch a picture together. 🦋

As this month of gratitude comes to an end, my heart is filled with so much love and joy. Besides being a lei maker, I am also a wife and mother to 3 amazing boys.

Even though these pictures are a few years old ( taken in 2019), they are still some of my absolute favorite family photos. I was blessed with a photoshoot by a lovely company that brought the most amazing vintage mu'umu'u on site for me to wear during the shoot. It was such a fun experience to wear these pieces for our family photos. I was also gifted the gorgeous bougainvillea lei po'o and flower hair piece worn in the photos.

We chose to take the photos at Kahana Bay, and it was such a full circle experience to bring my boys to a place that I loved and cherished being at as a child. The weather was absolutely perfect that day, and I couldn't imagine a prettier place to take family photos.

Thank you to everyone who has followed along on my lei making journey. I appreciate each and every one of you! Whether you've purchased a lei or cheered me on from the sidelines, I truly appreciate you! Every like and comment is an affirmation that I'm on the right path to following my dreams to create and share my gift of lei making to the world. Mahalo, mahalo, mahalo.

Just wrapped up the most amazing weekend with my lei sisters at a plumeria retreat. Our weekend was spent admiring the most amazing plumerias at , a fun pāpale niu workshop with , painting paint kits by , and lei making with the prettiest blooms. The entire trip was filled with so much laughter and joy. My sweet little lei maker heart is filled with gratitude for our lei hui here in California. Hugs to the gals who couldn't make it.

Stopped by the & picked up some wildflower seed packets that they are giving away in honor of Earth Day. The blue flower is also seed paper, and my boys are so excited to plant it. We are going to attract more butterflies. 🦋🌱🌸

Just came across this little gem. This is little Christina, circa 1992, rocking that classic lei po'o + matching lei combo for a school photo at Lāʻie Elementary School. I imagine my mother going to our local floral shop and placing the order for a matching lei set. The ordering process for a lei po'o was simple, you told them what color(s) you wanted, and then you were pleasantly surprised to see what they made for you on the day of pick up. I remember being so excited to wear these beauties for my photos that day. Unfortunately, the flowers did not stand the test of time, and they were lost long ago, but this photo captured their beauty that day. Reflecting on this, I am so thankful to create beautiful leis for you all to celebrate YOUR special occasions. Each lei is an ephemeral piece of flower art that's not meant to last a lifetime. It's meant to be enjoyed in that moment, on that day, to honor that occasion. I think this adds to the beauty of both gifting and receiving a lei- you are adding to this special day by living in the moment.
