Being a Gentleman Playbook: Keep Your Promises

A big part of being a gentleman is respecting others’ time and meaning what you say. If you say you’re going to meet someone at a specific time, don’t be late. When you tell someone you’re going to help them with something, help them. When you promise you’ll have a project done by a certain date, meet your deadline.

Not only will this build trust with those you care about, it will also help build self-trust, a crucial-yet-underrated form of trust when you’re a gentleman.

GOOD = GET her a gift and SURPRISE her.

BAD = Never tell your wife about a gift that you ALMOST got her. It sounds like common sense right? Sometimes the excitement gets the best of us, and we let it slip. GIFT stories are NOT hunting stories. Talking about the one that you DIDN'T get will get you in trouble.

Be out of the ordinary. Be spontaneous. Do something that she wouldn’t expect. It’s as simple as getting her a cup of tea. Maybe she would share a treat like some chocolate cake with you. How about running her a bath? Light a candle, leave her alone and let her be with her thoughts. She will love you for it, and the rewards will be plentiful.

Get to it. It’s time to shine.
