Last month we had the absolute pleasure of hosting the wedding of our good friends Jen and Sam. Mrs. Bent House did the marrying, the tiny ponies were the ring bearers and the barn came in very useful after the British summer spoiled our plans of an outdoor ceremony. The weekend could not have gone better and we are grateful to the universe for giving us the opportunity to make a wonderful family’s dreams come true 💗🥰🥳

We’ve had 3 surprise new babies this week from our Zwartbles, with added horns! We have a small herd of five very hardy ponies who have 24/7 access to the yard and a barn with lovely deep bedding that they completely ignore all year round.

They came into the barn for shelter for 3 whole days this entire autumn and winter - preferring to be cold and wet in the field.

This week, we put our mollycoddled pet lambs in the same field with the same access to the barn as they were in another field and constantly sheltering from weather in the hen house and upsetting our hens.

The lambs go in the horse barn all of the time to avoid sun, rain, wind and just generally be closer to us humans.

The ponies have now noticed this and started booting the lambs out of the barn at every sign of rain, staking their place as the big buggers on the farm.

Mollycoddled lambs aren’t that scared of the big ones and will stand there stare them out until they win 😂

Getting the wild ones in has moved on significantly from a couple of weeks ago when they were terrified of everything and mostly preferred to stand in the field at the end of a lead rope refusing to move or jumping at every little noise and running away. They’re still jumpy and don’t particularly want to be handled but will now come all the way across the huge field as soon as they’re shouted and have no qualms about coming on the yard to dry out and get some grub. Gladys (black one) loves to get scratches. Florence is less keen but now comes over for a sniff. Separation anxiety! We have had a fun time with two lots of sheep separation - firstly the mamas needed separating from their very big babies for a few weeks so they can start their cycle again ready for making new babas. The lil girls also needed separating from the boys so they can go get some romance on, along with the yows with a visiting tup. We don’t have a sheepdog so all sheep movement and separation is done with the help of our four small people and lots and lots of ewe nuts.
