****Weekly Specials In Separate Post****
On Friday, March 13, 2020, I closed our kitchens for what was the start of Spring Break 2020 at Stevens Institute of Technology. Our core business is providing meal plan services to several Fraternities and Sororities. We all knew this was not going to be the usual Spring Break and I thought that after break, we would resume our meal plan service to our many Greek Chapter customers.
That was not to be as Stevens, like every other college, closed the campus. Our university-owned houses closed outright and our privately owned houses either closed or because classes were virtual, most of the residents chose to stay at home. As I’ve said “95% of my customer base disappeared overnight, but 95% of my bills didn’t”.
So on Monday, March 23, 2020, I announced a new business, Julia’s Comfort Kitchen. We offered the same delicious, healthy and made with love food we’ve been serving our college customers since 2009 with contactless delivery and payment. Delivery to the Fair Lawn area was super easy as the trip out of Hoboken came in under 28 minutes.
There was a true need for our services and saw our business grow to Glen Rock, Ridgewood, Franklin Lakes, Hawthorne, and Wyckoff - especially Wyckoff. Through the kind words of one poster on Wykcoff Moms, we saw our business literally go through the roof with my cell phone exploding for requests for our menu and subsequent orders.
We expanded again to Holiday catering, serving lots of our yummy Thanksgiving dinners, Christmas and New Year’s celebrations, Corned Beef dinners for St. Patrick's, traditional Easter deliciousness (our Pizza Rustica rocked!), Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Fourth of July. And let’s not forget the many private parties for birthdays, graduations, first communions and those “we need to get together” special occasions.
On Monday, August 30, Julia’s Greek Kitchen resumes full operation with all of our Greek customers back on campus. Our day starts at 4:45am and goes to 6:30pm Monday through Friday. This means some changes to Julia’s Comfort Kitchen operations.
Our last day of weekly dinner delivery will be Friday, August 20 as Bill and I are taking a much deserved vacation - the first since March 13, 2020. While we will not be offering daily dinner delivery service after August 20, 2021, we will offer catering services, including our popular family dinner options, on Saturdays starting September 11, 2021. We will also offer Holiday catering and pop-up dates with special menus.
I never in my wildest dreams thought I would start a new business in the midst of a global plague, but we did. With your support as amazing customers, we made it through a very dark time. Bill and I can not express in enough words our gratitude for you as our customer, the many kind words and reviews, the super important constructive criticism that helped us better our offerings and service and the many happy tummies we have fed.
With gratitude,
Julia Enerson & Bill Spada
