This sweet note belongs to those of you who have contributed to the foster care book drives over the last two years. 💗 I certainly did not expect to find this handwritten note in the mail. You gifted comfort, friends. You did not know exactly who would need a book. You gave anyway. Thank you for your generosity.

The last two years, I've done a book drive to support foster children in Blount County, where my Mamaw fostered during her life. This note is from Blount County. If you've given to any of the other book drives to benefit CASA Robertson County, or any of the Isaiah 117 House drives, the Foster Parent Associations, etc, this note rings true for those, too. Books provide a comfort. An escape. They can provide a gentle way for a new foster child and foster parent to adventure away from the present, while allowing connection.

So, thank you. This note is for you 💗💗💗

This is a wonderful book and apparently lots of others think so, too!

We love our books and we especially love when OTHERS love our books! The Book of Math, one of our titles was just selected as a 2023 Mathical Winner in two categories. The Mathical Book Prize recognizes outstanding fiction and literary nonfiction for youth ages 2-18. This year’s selections explore the many facets of mathematics in the world around us, from recreational computer coding to poetry, counting what's not there, and more.

This is simply one of my favorite series that we offer 🤩

Each book in the School of Monsters series (Sally Rippin, Chris Kennett) offers a story "from the perspective of a different ghoulish student trying to fit in and find their way, which can be pretty scary even for a young monster! What they each learn is that when they rely on one other, it’ll be a howling good time for all" (Nanny Miss Monique).

I cannot give anyone this library (oh, how I wish!), but this month I have had the absolute joy and privilege to use my business to gift others. Between CASA, Isaiah 117 House Robertson County, Book Vending Machines at Robert F Woodall and White House Heritage Elementary, guidance counselors and teachers at various schools, I've been able to donate over $1,000 in books to our community.

Thank you all for your amazing support. I love this community and am honored to spread literacy here and beyond.

An organization that gifts books to elementary students recently asked me about Usborne Books & More and if we offer a variety of fiction and nonfiction, educational AND fun, diverse, engaging, and if they can be matched to TN standards and/or curriculum. We've been communicating back and forth over a variety of things, and today I sent them a box of these titles. (Thank you to the teachers that have helped me with this endeavor! You know who you are ❤️ )

When you do, you are giving them the gift not only of your time, presence, and attention now, but you are setting them up for their future --> A love of knowledge, a wider vocabulary, a desire to read, not to mention you are continually taking them on adventures of mirrors and windows: mirrors in which they see themselves reflected / windows through which they see into the lives of others. This cultivates empathy and spreads compassion 🥳

Whew, I am tired! And for good reason 🤣📚
Last night, I was in KY for a school event. Hooray for free books for the librarian! And the teachers 🤩 They were PUMPED to learn that they got to choose books for their classrooms at a big discount 💜📚💜📚 I'm all about helping schools spread their funding further.

Then, this morning I was at the Fairgrounds in Springfield supporting CASA. 50% of everything sold went back in free books to CASA for their kiddos. A HUGE hit with CASA volunteers was our Learning Wrap-Ups. Those sold quickly as volunteers squealed about the importance of having those to be a help with kids and their learning.

I have a dream to get Learning Wrap-Ups donated to schools in my area and beyond. If you're interested in partnering with that dream to make it a reality, let me know!

Now, I'm preparing for my family's Haunted Feast. Two events behind me, one fun party tonight (that will include Beast Feast!) then back to books next week 🤩

I had a blast this past Friday at the Fall Family Block Party! Gorgeous weather, fabulous event, and community 💕 I'll be in Kentucky on Friday for an Elementary school event then right back here in Robertson County on Saturday morning for the Boo Bash Run. 50% of total sales from the Boo Bash Run will be matched in free books for CASA to gift the children they serve. Do you encourage your children to read the classics? I know, I know... They can feel intimidating, but let me give you three quick reasons putting these beloved stories in front of your kids makes sense:
💬 1. Vocabulary: Grammar, punctuation use, and word choice changes with time periods. reading through texts written throughout history introduces your child to a vast array of linguistic devices and language choices that otherwise they would miss out on. This develops better readers and richer writers.
🤔 2. Analyzation: As classics have been dissected and discussed for decades, your child has a wealth of knowledge to use in comparing and contrasting their interpretation with the volumes written about each book. Repeated themes, symbols, and plots have been explored across generations and cultures allowing for your child's comprehension and critical thinking skills to grow as they read and study.
🕰 3. Culture: Within the stories of the classics lies thought patterns, cultural norms, and the shift and growth of our world over time. Immersing themselves in a different time period, readers learn to identify and appreciate the difference between the book's setting and their modern world. This develops readers who see the value of leaving a legacy and improving our world.
