PRO TIP FOR PLACE SETTINGS Ever run into a caterer that doesn't want the plates on the table for the reception? This is usually because they want the plates in the kitchen so they can start plating the first course for smoother service. This absolutely makes sense, but doesn't make for beautiful photos - think utensils and napkins with a hole in the middle for plates...oyy. So we found a few workarounds. TFM TIPS: *The most obvious workaround is a charger. The charger would stay on the table and the first course (plated in the kitchen) would be placed on top of it. *However, if it's important for your clients to have both first and second course plates on the table, you can request that the servers collect the first course plates when dinner orders are being taken. This is something you're going to want to walk through with your catering team. There may be logistical details to talk through and you want to formulate a plan together. It also might involve a double order of plates so make sure you're communicating with your caterer. https://instagr.am/p/CLt76l1rI6p/

You know that feeling when you have so much to do, so many thoughts in your head, so much you're trying to keep track of - that you feel a bit paralyzed? We've been there, in fact we're there all the time! But try and remember the following TFM TIPS: *Get everything out of your head and onto paper or onto a list at the very least. *Take the time to organize it by priority. Making the time to plan and organize your tasks will make them much more manageable. *Start somewhere! Tackle one task and hit the next one! Don't forget to jot down your follow up tasks so you don't have to keep track in your head...aka prompting the cycle again ;) https://instagr.am/p/CLoyVlYMohO/

HOW ARE YOU FINDING YOUR CLIENTS? Everyone finds their clients in different ways and there is no right or wrong way. TFM TIPS: *Our number one method of finding clients is through vendor/venue referrals. We are so thankful for these partnerships and attribute it to the genuine relationships we've made along the way. So start creating community!! *Many people find clients via publications and social media. Creating awareness of your business and your portfolio is a great way to attract a potential client. *Word of mouth. At the close of a client partnership, ask them to leave you and honest review and encourage them to reach out if they or anyone they know are ever in need of planning in the future. Also, stay in touch with them! It will make you happy, it will make them happy, and it will keep you top of mind when they are thinking about hiring someone or recommending someone in the future. *Paid advertising. Personally, this has never worked well for us, but many people have found some success paying for advertising on different media channels whether that be in a magazine, paid social, etc. How are YOU finding your clients? — view on Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CLjovKZMYXI/

SUCH IS LIFE Sometimes dream client inquiries show up in your inbox and even after your best client call, things still may not go your way. Unfortunately, this can happen all the time. So what can you do about it? TFM TIPS: *Take the time to review the experience from the potential client's perspective. What was your first interaction with them like whether it be via email on the phone, etc.? Do you feel they clearly understood what your services were and the value of your services after you explained it to them? Were you responsive to their questions and concerns? Could you offer what they were looking for? Did you have previous experience similar to what they were wanting? *Once you've taken the time to review the experience, put in the work to make it better. Practice your pitch, explaining your services and process, active listening, etc. Start manifesting the type of client experience you are wanting moving forward. *Don't be afraid to ask for feedback. If a client decides to go in a different direction, request constructive feedback in order to get better. It's tough to do and sometimes even tougher to get, but it's worth a shot! https://instagr.am/p/CLefJYvss7p/

CREATING A DESIGN PLAN - P.2 **P.1 posted 2/5/21** Once you are aligned with what a client is looking for, now it's time to really put your creativity to work. TFM TIPS: *Review your client notes and start to expand on them. Yes, you heard us correctly, expand on them and elevate those initial plans. It's important to realize that your clients have hired you for your expertise and aesthetic and are looking for a professional to flush out their plans. This can lead to a much more beautiful, collaborative design vs. just executing what a client listed out for you. *Draw inspiration from the venue. This one is important. You want to ensure that your design plan looks cohesive with the venue. What did your clients like about the venue and how can you create a design to enhance those details? *Flow and logistics. Don't get so caught up in the design that you forget about the overall flow of the event. Consider how a guest would move through the space. Ensure each design decision has a purpose, thoughtfulness, and an overall intention. Working through that thought process always brings about the best design ideas. Did you find this helpful? Do you have any questions?! https://instagr.am/p/CLMdlmgLS4D/

CREATING A DESIGN PLAN - P.1 It can be overwhelming to create a design for a space. Where do you start? What do you tackle first? Answer: always, always start with the client. TFM TIPS: *Have an initial design meeting with your clients. Ideally, this would be in-person at their home or apt. so you can really get a sense of their style but given the times we realize that's a little tricky so Zoom works too! Ask them to take you on a virtual tour :). Ask them to point out their fave artwork, ask them about textiles, colors, etc. take the time to really get to know their style, and ask lots of Qs. *Come prepared - that goes for both you and your clients. If your clients have Pinterest boards or inspo photos, encourage them to share with you beforehand. You should also come prepared too. Hopefully, you have done a walkthrough of the venue or at least researched it online, so come with some brainstorming ideas! *Have a plan on how to structure the meeting. It can be difficult for a client to explain what they want in a design when you give them a general, broad-ended question. We like to structure our design meetings by starting off with the big picture and moving into smaller details. We start with a color scheme they like and what words they would use to describe the wedding they want. From there, we break it down and discuss each design element from save the dates to favors and everything in between. We like to break it down to paper products, florals - both personal and arrangements, attire, ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, lighting, cake, tablescape, etc. When you break it down like this, you'll notice the difference in how much more a client is able to provide feedback. If this was helpful give us a thumbs up and check back next week for p.2! https://instagr.am/p/CK6VMAFrGDb/

Do you ever look back to when you were just starting off? Do you remember how little you started off with? For us, it was really just a dream, a computer, and a determination to make things work. The first jobs we took on weren't the most glamorous or weddings that magazines wanted to publish, but they had their own beauty. They were proof that someone outside of ourselves believed in our little business and trusted our ability. Today marks 12 years in business. 12 wonderful, extremely trying, inspiring years. It's easy to feel nostalgic about the beginning because now we can recognize that at every stage, in every year of our business, there was something so magical growing. We feel so grateful to have been pursuing this dream for so long. Hope you all have enjoyed following along on the journey! How long have you been in biz?? https://instagr.am/p/CKym1Urr3Qq/

When Todd and I got married we asked our nearest and dearest tiny human friends to be flower children in our wedding. How cute are they?!?! To create the best experience for them and their parents (who were also all in the wedding) we did the following and we recommend you encourage your clients to do the same. *Give the parents enough notice and all the information they need; like what color attire the kids will be wearing (or the exact outfit you would like them to wear), do they need to be at the rehearsal, where, and what time they should be ready to walk down the aisle on the day of the wedding, etc. The more time the parents have to prep the better and the more info they have the more they care help make everything go smoothly for themselves, the tinies, you the planners, and the couple. *Have a plan B. A flower child may not want to walk down the aisle by themselves, so plan to have mom, dad, grandma, etc. standing by in case they need a buddy to go with them or help usher them to their seat. *If plan B doesn't work, just laugh it off and remember you'll probably have a good story to share after! https://instagr.am/p/CKl12QELM3R/
