Unfortunately, we’ve had to cancel our Halloween event this year. Sorry to everyone that was looking forward to this event. We’re gonna need a moment to regroup, but we’ll definitely be back with more ways to support all of you creatives and creatures.

Get your costumes ready for some seriously spooky celebrations.
Our Halloween Show, “A Bruja Burlesque” is happening Sunday October 30th at 666pm! 10 different acts for this spooky extravaganza including DJ’s, burlesque, drag and more! Prizes for best dressed, Ornacia photo booth (Mother has arrived!), games and wicked treats. All ages, $15 at the door with no one turned away for lack of funds. ANOUNCEMENT: The collective is proud to present the POP! Project. A community initiative and meet up by SWers, for SWers. A safe in-person and online meet up to discuss issues related to the industry, share knowledge, provide solidarity and support as well as activism within the community. Our meetings will be held the first of every month at a private address with verification required to access in order to keep this closed to the SWer community.
Donations are encouraged but not required however we strongly encourage non-SWers in the underground Eora community to donate to SWers and SWer organisations.

Lèse Majesté] is the drag clown cvnt your mother warned you about. Fierce First Nations performer and direct descendent of Ned Kelly, Lèse Majesté pushes boundaries, fcks hard with gender and rages in unwavering pride. They’ve been performing drag for 4 years and are a treasured member of the Eora drag scene. Lèse Majesté] are the first person we had in mind to perform this show and without them we wouldn’t have the namesake of the show, “Séance” (no spoilers!) As a self described, “Witch of Waste,” they will be bringing their spirit, sluttery and stuntery to the second act of Séance.

$3X Worker Safety
Due to the nature of our collective, it’s members and our audience all comprising members of the $Wer community in Eora, we feel it imperative to put out our safety statement / policy regarding this group of wonderful, talented and worthy people.

$3x Workers are deserving of protection at all times, whether on the job or mixing with civilians. They are valued people and deserve to be treated as such. While some are performing tonight, outside of their performances they are not here for your entertainment. Please follow the rules outlines below when interacting with members of this community. Anyone seen breaking these rules will be escorted by security immediately and banned from all future Altar shows

1. No personal questions. Please do not ask them for their real name, where they live or ask for their mobile number. This is private information and releasing it can prevent $Wers from staying safe. Many are not out to their families, partners, friends etc and outing them can have devastating consequences.
2. Do not ask them if they will see you as a client. This is not the space and soliciting outside of a premise is illegal in NSW. $Wers are here to enjoy the show, not get bookings.
3. Asking for a “collab” is intrusive and creepy. They don’t know you, they haven’t asked you this themselves and honestly, it’s super creepy.
4. If you are not a $Wer, please refrain from asking $Wers questions that are uncomfortable for them to answer. Eg, what was your worst client, what does your family think of your work, how much money do you make. They are people, not conduits for trauma p**n
5. Do not under any circumstances touch them. They are not objects, they are people.
6. Any whorephobia of any kind is not allowed. This is a safe space, we will not allow you to infringe on that for them
7. If you have seen any of the $Wers online on social media or personally as a client do not approach them. Discretion is imperative in this industry and approaching a $Wer in this space to point them out as someone you have seen is outing them and will not be tolerated

Act II begins and ends with sets from First up is spoken word horror project with fellow dark darling of the underground Eora scene .spit presenting “Pleasure Co**se”
Closing the show is noise project .noise Taking inspiration from volatile women, horror flicks and sacred spiritual violencenoise seeks the raging beast within ourselves and uses it as a conduit to unrepentant and raw emotional expression, layered in melodrama and screaming in celebration of the so called “female hysteria”

We are not a venue, we are not a space but we seek safe spaces to create, explore and expand with our community. Our place in this world is to take back what has been stolen from us, redefine the terms of performance that the cis-het white patriarchy has placed on us and revolutionise the expression of art and commitment to community in all that we do.

The Altar 222 is a love letter to q***rness, marginalised communities and the magic that happens when those pushed to the back are brought to the front (where they rightly belong). We welcome ally-ship in all forms but we reject those who don’t understand why it is necessary for BIPOC, q***r and femme folk to have spaces for us that aren’t overshadowed and dictated by those who have far greater privilege than us.

We draw inspiration and strength from our dearly departed, our friends hanging on by a thread and our own broken hearts that keep on beating despite the odds stacked against us. You are not forgotten; you are our oxygen, our life blood and the spark that ignites us to do this and keep going.

As My Chemical Romance said, “You must fix your heart and build an altar where it rests.” And we took that seriously.

This is for you, this is for us. We can fix what is broken and build an altar for our hearts to finally come home and rest.

Welcome to Sydney's new underground performance space, The Altar!

We pay our respects to the traditional owners of this land, the Gadigal People.

The Altar is q***r friendly and bipoc centric space that welcomes people of all ages and all backgrounds. We will be hosting a range of events with our first event being held in July.

With the seemingly endless list of venue closures in Sydney we are truly excited to now open to you a new space for you to lay down your heart, upon The Altar
