Five bouquets went out this weekend for celebrations, one was a baby shower and one was a special dinner.

Does anyone else feel like they’re moving in slow motion while everything is rushing past them?
Whenever I feel like this I head to the gardens, usually barefoot, put my hands in the dirt and spray some water around. It centres me, brings me to my normal.
I find myself watching my kids do the same, watering here and there, running through the grass barefoot. It’s a fun game of roulette we play with the bees, and I am thankful for it each day.

What makes these tulips special?
Well for starters, I grew them. But in all honesty, 7 years ago I saw specialty double tulips at a tulip festival and knew they were all I wanted in the spring. Tulips that cheat and look like peonies, that bloom and last for weeks, beautiful pastels, bright colours that shock the senses into a joy of recognizing spring. What’s not to love?

We’re trying a few requests from past clients in an early start to seeds.
Eucalyptus, Lisianthus and Sea Holly are all prepped and started. We’ll see what happens with these and hopefully get some viable starters going.

The division process.
How do you know which way will work best for you. Truthfully, I think we all just hope the method we use continues to work for us, but there are so many factors at play.
Dividing this year has me wondering where they will all go next year.
Some of my favourites really went crazy on producing tubers. Castle Drive took her time blooming and provided me 6 giant hand sized tubers while Shear Heaven gave me more than I will know what to do with.
One of the last hauls of the season went to a lovely client who was creating arrangements for her late mother. We chatted briefly about what she would have thought about these and how much flowers had meant to her.
Sheer heaven was a big bloomer for this bunch.
Not many things bring me more joy than being able to help others, whether it be something simple like a bouquet, or something a little more time consuming.
Her name is Castle Drive, and she is waiting to bloom until the rains hit. How queen-like of her 👑
Truth be told, I had tried cuttings from her plant and the original tuber didn’t do well in the ground so the cuttings were my only hope.
One took well out of my limited cutting space and she got in the ground in mid June, but it was a rough go for a while. Now with 10 days of rain in the forecast I only have to laugh that she is deciding to bloom now.

She’s not perfect
but she’s mine.
I’ve gotten so busy providing for others that taking the time to appreciate the imperfect flowers brings me a bit of peace and joy. Soon the gardens will be wintered and everything will slow down, I think. Until then, I’m enjoying the heat and sunshine we’re still getting, and savouring the last of the blooms I’m lucky to get to grow.

Finished tucking the specialty tulips and narcissus in for their burst of winter before we see them bloom in 4ish months. I’m trying something new here to see if I can split the annual beds space. Winter prep for spring returns!
