Odette - Landfall

We were on our way to Siargao when we notice in the middle of the day the sounds of the wind near us violently swaying against the hotels and markets and the terrifying cries of the waves. Now, bear in mind, that this is Surigao, a third-class component city located at the edge of Mindanao. We stayed complacent, thinking that it would pass by soon but we were quickly proven wrong though once we got a hold of the internet and saw online that this weather was labeled on a higher risk. It meant that this certain typhoon, Odette, was capable of engendering floods and strong waves. Our hearts couldn’t take the trembles as we see people at different age, grannies at 80s, babies in month old, witnessing how the windows shattered. We saw through our naked vision that Surigao is indeed vulnerable to typhoons. We saw how children will always be at risks. Imagine a child who does not have access to food, health and medical security because his parents' livelihood has been destroyed. Imagine a child who has nowhere to go because his house has been destroyed. While we felt happy being able to help others, it’s sadder seeing some of the families be so desperate to live, to save their livelihoods, their last hope of survival. At the moment, Surigao has no signal, no internet, no means of communications, establishments are destroyed, people have no clothes to wear, no food to consume, no water to drink. Struggling, devasted, yet need to move on and regain its stance. #SurigaodelNorte #OdettePH #SurigaoCity
