The origins of dubstep can be traced back to the producers and DJs of the UK, specifically in the woods of Wessex. The influence of America has led to the fusion of production and DJing, resulting in a multitude of artists taking on both roles. However, this has led to a departure from the original culture and sound system life, which emphasizes the importance of structure and ways of performing. Unfortunately, the influx of brostep in America has overshadowed the original low-frequency dubs of the UK.
It is important for artists to remember that their role is not only about them but also about bringing enjoyment to the people they perform for. While it may seem tempting to compare oneself to others or prioritize personal gain, doing so ultimately leads nowhere as one risks losing sight of what truly matters - providing an experience for those who come out to support you.
