Here is a short montage of the last world championship semi final of Guiball.
Big thanks to all the amazing athletes involved, I hope we all meet across a parish again soon.
Here are the complete rules to Guiball so you too can set up a world championship semi final match.
Terminology -
Stickle = Ball
Parish = Pitch
Maison = Goal
Ooberquay = Bounce limit
Topmiler = Headbasket & player
Blockfister = Player (stickle handler / blocker)
Cleft Mitten = Glove thrown into play
Geometric = Dice thrown into play
Loading = Having a stickel or geometric inside the topmiler
Clapper = One game (first to 5 points)
Fouls -
- Over ooberquay
- Topmiler handling or kicking stickle or geometric
- Blockfister throwing from inside a maison into topmiler
- Maison called unloaded
- Stickle or blockfister outside of the parish
Plays -
Classical Heist – When a team fouls the ref can stop play and enforce a classical heist. This means that one topmiler must lay down on the ground and is effectively out of play until the non-fouling team has a loaded topmiler.
Fat Chalet – the same as a classical heist but when a team has a geometrically loaded topmiler every topmiler of the fouling team must lie down and be out of the game until the non-fouling team scores a maison or gets loaded with either the stickle or the geometric again
Geometric Loading – The geometric is randomly thrown into play by the ref, the first team to load it into one of their topmilers wins ‘Geometric Loading’, the game continues. If the geometrically loaded team scores a maison then they get an additional point. If the other team foul then the classical heist becomes a fat chalet.
Emmantal Loop – A cleft mitten is randomly thrown into play by the ref, the first blockfister to put it on wins an emmantal loop. The game is stopped, the mitten wearing player and a top miler of their team get into a crouching position 3 meters from each other and the mitten wearing player gets a free throw of the stickle
Orthodox Stickles – Each team can only use their allocated stickle
Random Stickles – There can be one or more stickles in play, any team can use any stickle
Gameplay -
Usually played with 6 on a team (3 topmilers & 3 blockfisters).
The ooberquay limit is set and stickles are set to either orthodox or random. The starting positions of the topmilers and blockfisters are set the same for each team. When the whistle blows the first team to get a loaded topmiler to run to their maison, put their LEFT arm in the air and shout ‘MAISON’ wins one point for the team. The first team to score 5 points wins a clapper.
