Hypnotic and trippy, repetitive rounding sounds journeys. Gemini Brothers, the Romanian DJs and producers captured the electronic music scene since the 00’s. Influenced by the past roots, but staying strong in the present, the twins evolved as artists developing their own signature in styles they have been experimenting over the years; from Techno to House, from Acid to Minimal.
Their complex and intense rhythms, bassline twists and drive fusion materials drawn in legendary record labels to get their releases on Moodmusic, Skint, Eskimo or Miami’s Bad Barbie. Known as Gemini Brothers or Francis and Francois, they interconnect like no-others, plus, being twins, the mother-heart connection goes beyond same music tastes and continues into never-forget journeys sets and mixes
Their various genres, combining techno with minimal and ambient, always transition with tracks that never ends gives them the trippy trips to many European places to share their sounds and experience. Now you can find them traveling to various clubs from Barcelona to Warsaw, from Belgrade to Tel-Aviv, from Mamaia’s Sunwaves Festival to London’s Lovebox.
Capablanca is a charismatic and eclectic DJ, producer and label owner who has been steadily building a reputation for making his dilettante and playful approach a style of his own for more than a decade from his Berlin home base.
His DJ sets and studio work reflect this creative energy, melting far out genres and styles together to create a raw and organic whole that bends both body and mind. His sound can be easily recognised in his own solo productions, remixes and collaborations for labels like Hivern Discs (as C.P.I. with Marc Piñol) or Cómeme. Hugo’s taste is also reflected on his own label, Discos Capablanca, home to a wide array of underground international artists like Mutant Beat Dance, Willie Burns, 33.10.3402, Odopt, Lipelis, Ron Morelli, Sharif Laffrey with releases spreading over the last 10 years.
Ever since his first exposure to euro-dance pop as a twelve-year-old kid, Berlin native Sascha Funke followed the siren call of electronic music, carving out his own spot at the forefront of leading-edge dance music. A seasoned hunter constantly digging for epic melodies, kicking beats or top-tier records to grace both his studio output and DJ sets, he specializes in deep, sweeping sounds - but always favored sitting on the fence when it came to the occasional shootout between genre trenches.
A well-known purveyor of allusive, pop-infused minimalism, Funke successfully combines the straightforward and the uncanny, all wrapped up in lean and stylish arrangements that don’t need much tools to establish a complex atmosphere - a sort of lock 'n' load romanticism that can be readily experienced on the much-acclaimed and highly influential full-length releases „Bravo“(2003) or „Mango“ (2008). Both went on to become electronic classics in their own right and remain a rather popular choice on international dance floors to this day.
Founder and A&R of Life and Death, Dj Tennis grew up tour-managing punk bands and organising left-field music events in Italy around the turn of the Millennium. Having completed his studies in computer science at the University of Pisa, Tennis went on to form DAZE, Italy’s first booking agency solely devoted to electronic music.
Drawing on two decades of experience behind the scenes, Romano shifted focus in 2010, establishing himself as a DJ in his own right. As a performer, Tennis valiantly showcases an astute ability to create intimacy in even the vastest of gatherings. As a respected producer, DJ Tennis consistently channels his past relationships with post-rock luminaries such as Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Tortoise and Fugazi into intricately-synthesised electronic constellations.
Eddie Lanzat | NOMAD | Bucharest | 28 August
With an aesthetic sense drawn to the "noir" side of music and a never-ending love for 80s inspired sounds and psychedelic music, Eddie Lanzat's releases on Nein Records, Emerald & Doreen Recordings and Dogs & Vultures Records felt like a natural thing to do for the Control Club resident.
.
Besides the reckless experimentation under various aliases and playing all-nighters or joining the lineup on some occasions at venues such as Kater Blau, Crack Bellmer or La Rotonde Stalingrad, he takes care of 'Cabinet', a party co-curated alongside Nek.
In a world of crate diggers, willfully eclectic selectors and micro-scene experts, few DJs and producers maintain the curiosity, bulletproof taste and unique identity of Mehmet Aslan . Born to Turkish immigrant parents and raised in Basel, Switzerland, a childhood absorbing Turkish music was only the beginning of an esoteric trip down a rabbit hole of fascinating, often unusual music, enrapturing dancefloors with his own record collection alongside his own, equally varied productions.
Whether in the confines of the booth, keeping the most open-minded dancefloor on their toes or establishing his own contribution to the musical landscape, Aslan continues to draw disparate lines between genres, eras and sounds, sewing a distinct musical tapestry that’s all his own, yet all yours to get lost in.
Although unburdened by the need to bow to genre conventions, there’s still a common emotional core through Man Power's creations that, paired with a penchant for the cinematic and absurdist, makes him stand out from other eclectically inclined peers.
A contrarian nature also bleeds through Man Power’s approach to the music industry. His label Me Me Me has regularly shed its skin in terms of outlook, artists and methods, with only the steadfast goal of supporting his friends remaining intact. His latest ruse is to reverse the grubby trends of club-night promotion, with his Us & Them parties binning advance tickets, supporting regional talents, booking like-minded souls regardless of profile, and ditching branding obsessions all in favour of more equitable behaviour.
Honored to have him start off our first NOMVD party together with Palms Trax, Mehmet Aslan and Eddie Lanzat.
A memorable performance at Dekmantel’s flagship Amsterdam festival in 2015 captured open hearts, lost minds and aching feet. Since then, the sound of Palms Trax has been a fixture on their enormous main stage, drifting seamlessly between vintage house, esoteric disco and the various shades of a bubbling UK underground he has helped define.
Occasional back-to back performances with the likes of Hunee, Young Marco, and Midland, all DJs regularly credited for their breadth of musical knowledge and versatility, speak volumes for Donaldson’s DJing nous, which has lead him on an international trail; from South America to Australia, and from Panorama Bar to Concrete, Contact, and De School.
