Why the hype? Are they just buzz words? What’s the value in sourcing from local & American grown farmers as a florist and for your customers. Let’s chat 🌸

The battle to keep agriculture a part of our country isn’t just important to farmers & ranchers, it’s important to us as artists, business owners & consumers. If we do not choose to buy, ask for & support our agriculture community eventually it will not exist. You won’t have the opportunity to buy from local farmers, you won’t be able to have a cut flower represent season or place and you won’t have community members with their hands in the soil bringing fresh produce, vegetables and flowers to your tables.

If it’s important to you to source domestically and know where your flowers come from, then start making the changes!! Yes, US grown is more expensive so adjust your pricing, educate your customers why and share the importance of origin before every transaction we have as consumers becomes faceless and we have no connection to our land and communities. Origin matters and so does having the choice to be able to source here in our country.

Supporting & sourcing local & American-grown flowers & foliage fosters environmental sustainability, economic growth, and provides consumers with fresher, higher-quality floral products. ! Change starts here everyday with all of YOU. How will you choose to be a part of it?

26/01/2025

I’ve been watching posts all day in floral groups panicking about the possibility of a 25% tariff on Colombian imports, especially with Valentine’s Day around the corner. Their panic is deeply warranted. 78% of the flowers bought and sold in the U.S. are imports with Colombia as our largest supplier, especially of roses.

This is a scary time and will affect florists bottom line, no doubt, especially if you are a florist that relies solely or heavily on imported flowers. This is not an anti-import post but an education post to discuss what options you have.

20% of the flowers bought & sold in the U.S. are grown here locally in YOUR communities and by large commercial farms across the country. For those florists that started seeing other options that they could source from since the pandemic affected the supply chain there isn’t a sudden WTH do we do feeling.

Can our U.S. growers turn on a dime to fill the huge gaps overnight … unfortunately no. There has to be a consistent demand for domestic product for them to plan for more production throughout this year and next. There is a reason we don’t have the supply like Colombia does and they are a significant part of the reason we lost farms since the mid 90s. With the Andean Free Trade Agreement they began producing more and cheaper and started flooding the U.S. market causing many of our farms to close their doors year after year.

So what can you do to stay afloat and keep growing as a small business in the floral industry? Raise your prices to accommodate the tariffs or cost of local & American grown … which honestly with 25% increase will be closer to fair trade prices and comparable.

Maybe this helps the U.S. cut flower growing industry or maybe things stay the same. You have the choice to source differently, be part of change, connect with your local growers and educate your customers or fall victim to this tariff and possibly more to come. What will you choose?

With many of our Valentines botanicals come from the flower basket of the country, California, there’s no better time to support the agriculture communities there throughout the state and across the country.

These farms & communities continually face climate change effects and rising prices of water, gas, labor & energy as well as the continued increase in cheaper imports …. yet many have persevered and continue to provide for us 12 months a year while providing millions of jobs across the United States.

This Valentines share the importance of origin and why buying domestically is important with your customers. You have an opportunity to be a big voice in your community for supporting local & American grown farmers.

Preorders due in 10 days on 1/20. Get your orders in 🌸

This coast welcomed me each time I flew into LA since 2019 when I first started working on The Floral Source. The people that became a part of my life and helped me grow this community & collective voice live among these wildfires throughout LA from canyons to coast. My heart is broken seeing the destruction and cannot begin to fathom the fear, pain and loss everyone is experiencing.

While none of our partnering farms have thankfully been damaged in the fires, these communities that burned held their loved ones & friends and many of our own in the industry.

Lifting you up in love & prayer LA. Stay safe friends, we love you

Merry Christmas from us to all of you! 🌲❤️ Thank you for your continued support of our partnering farms & your community of local growers across the country, all year long!

Huge thanks to our evergreens growers, berry growers, wreath & garland makers that made our wreath workshops and home decor installations possible this season! We are continually humbled & grateful to work alongside all of you to support domestic agriculture and create accessibility to more U.S. grown flowers & greens! It’s incredible to witness all the growth within this community and see the changes & impact you are making in your hometowns!

Sending light, love, rest & peace to all of you. As you reflect on this year may you see all the small feats you overcame & accomplished. We often only think celebrating the big accomplishments is the goal but fail to see that all the small daily things we do as business owners & community members matter the most . Keep up the great work flower friends, we see you! 🙌

Neutral mauve brown vibes by way of mocha mousse - we got you with local & American grown blooms 🙌Here’s my top picks of what we can source, domestically, throughout the year with 2025’s color of the year!

It’s a mix of feelings every year when announces their chosen color. In my 14 years as a wedding florist you don’t see it requested from your couples for another year or so, which allows us time to prepare. While there isn’t a true “mocha mousse” in flowers we got some close contenders and color family members that will work incredibly well for this very versatile color with lots of room for interpretation!

Florists, remember your local farmers can’t just go plant all the brown flowers right now for next year and be prepared for mass quantities but they can listen to trends and what you will want to source and plan for the near future! This is a great opportunity for local flower farmers and their florists to talk about expectations & needs this winter! Host a local meet up to talk shop as a community 🌸

We are American Grown 🌸 🌱 The Floral Source is a proud member of which is a coalition of American grown flower & foliage growers, wholesalers & its advocates! We are honored to work with our 25+ partnering farms 12 months a year to get you the freshest farm direct domestically grown flowers & foliage!!

Certified American Grown (CAG) is a non-profit launched in 2021. As a national trade association, it represents a unified and diverse community of American flower and foliage farmers from the United States. Consumers spend almost $27 billion per year on floral products, and while the majority of consumers would prefer to buy locally grown flowers and foliage, only a small percentage (22%) sold in the United States are grown here. It’s our hope to change that by further educating consumers and policy makers on the importance of supporting home grown industry.

CAG & its member’s vision is to have a healthy, sustainable, and prosperous American grown flower and foliage farming community. The iconic Certified American Grown seal communicates to the consumer the domestic origins of purchase, and affirms the high quality, freshness and standards involved with producing American Grown flowers, foliage and plants.

With a daily economic impact of almost $42 million, and supporting hundreds of farmers, thousands of small businesses, and tens of thousands of jobs in the United States, the flower and foliage sector is an important part of U.S. agriculture. Imagine the positive impact if more flowers and foliage sold were homegrown!

YOUR CHOICE helps support family farms who work hard every day – investing their time, energy and passion into producing the freshest, highest quality and most beautiful products so you and your family have home grown flowers, foliage and plants to enjoy.

Certified American Grown is here to ensure our farmers’ viability now and in the future so American grown can be part of your everyday life and special events!

I’m so excited to be hosting a fall workshop in Oregon Sept 30-Oct 1 at ! I knew when I visited their property in Forest Grove, Oregon last June it was a place & team I wanted other designers to meet & experience!

Hosting these farm & floral workshops is more than just about the creating & pretty, it’s about building the community, education, digging deeper and grasping the importance of why where our flowers & greens come from truly matters. It’s about the people behind the blooms & foliage that work hard year-round to make American grown products a reality for us! Without them we would only have imported product and no connection to season or place.

If you’ve been wanting to get out in the fields, meet farmers & farm teams & learn how they do things and then create right where they grow then come join us this fall!

We will be focusing on holiday designs since this farm produces incredible winter foliage and unique textural botanicals unique to the PNW! & I will be teaching you how to elevate your holiday decor & decorating skills whether for business or personal use! No experience necessary, just a love of flowers & greens and a desire to grow your floral design tool kit!
