On this day 59 years ago my grandparents, Juan & Fernanda got married over the phone ❤️

My biggest inspiration for .co was & still is their love not only for each other, but their families. I’ve recently gotten to go back to Buenos Aires to spend time with our family there and it has been so incredibly special to witness the bond they have with each other even after so much time apart. The letters, audio reels, records, etc. that were sent back and forth that my grandma has saved over the years is proof of that beautiful desire and intention to connect. It’s what helped build and strengthen those relationships long before the days you could simply pick up the phone to catch up with someone you loved. I can only imagine the sense of comfort she would feel when she finally came to California and she got to hear the voices of her mom and siblings when they were physically so far away.

I grew up coming home from school to buy long distance calling cards and checking the answering machine with her to see if there were any messages left (she was always waiting for one from her sister 💌) To this day she still keeps those old answering machines with voicemails from her siblings and when I visit her she’s almost always on the phone catching up with one of her nieces or nephews 🥹

In this journey of starting .co I’ve gotten the beautiful opportunity to learn more about my grandparents and family story. I’m so grateful to them for documenting so much of their lives and it has truly been a gift to our family to have those precious memories saved.

My hope has always been that .co can serve as much more than just a phone at your wedding, but a reminder to connect with the people you hold close in your lives and as an opportunity to tell them how much they mean to you. I hope that one day you’ll be able to share these voicemails with your future families and when you listen to your voicemails or play your vinyl record you’ll hear those voices & be inspired to call or connect with your loved ones and create more memories together ☺️

This is the first ever .co phone! The phone that started it all...🥹☎️✨

Back in 2019, as Jacob and Bailey, co-founders of After the Tone, prepared for their wedding, Bailey had an incredible idea: to capture the voices of their loved ones on their special day. The inspiration came from her own grandparents, who tied the knot over the phone. Jacob embarked on a search to bring this vision to life, eventually finding their now-business partner, Matt! Jacob surprised Bailey with this very phone, and from that moment on, their journey began!

So many messages left on this phone present and past, and it definitely holds a special place in our hearts ❤️
