Did you know? Le***an literally means resident of Le**os, a Greek island in the Aegean sea. But to most people the term describes a gay woman. So how did that happen?🏳️‍🌈
It's simple: the first woman that we have a record of her yearning for women was a literal ***an! She is no other than Sappho of Le**os, born around 615 B.C.😍
Sappho was a great poet who wrote many directed to other women. Unfortunately much of her poetry has been lost through the years, with a lot of people suspecting Christian fundamentalists to have played a part in the dissappearance of her works😔
But we still have enough to know for a fact that Sappho was a brave (woman who loved women). The reason we say brave is not just because she dared to write about *xuallove and feelings, but because her writing was also very erotic, something extremely uncommon for women in her time🥰

Our love goes to everyone who was looking forward to the Pride celebrations this year! Especially to those of you who were going to go for the first time. It sucks 😣
Pride is about celebrating what we have achieved as a community and raising awareness about what we are yet to achieve 🏳️‍🌈
We'd like to take this opportunity to raise awareness about a very important topic - trans rights in the UK are under threat.
"On Sunday 14th June The Sunday Times ran a front-page article about the government's decision to shelve much-needed reforms to the Gender Recognition Act 2004 (GRA), a once-groundbreaking – but now outdated – piece of LGBT equality legislation which allowed people with gender dysphoria to change their legal gender. India’s Hijra community is a unique group of inters*x and trans people that amalgamate gender and s*xual identities that are underpinned by religion and bound by a tight-knit community.

The Hijra’s have fought for legal recognition and are now recognised as a ‘third gender’ in law by Nepal, Pakistan, India and Bangladesh.

In India, the hijra community prefer to call themselves Kinnar which refers to the mythological beings that excel at song and dance.

This community challenges Western ideas of s*x and gender with some Hijras not defining themselves by specific s*xual orientation, but renouncing s*xuality altogether.

Those of us who identify as LGBTQ+ are more likely to develop mental health problems such as:
-low self-esteem
-depression
-anxiety, including social anxiety
-eating disorders
-misusing drugs and alcohol
-self-harm
-suicidal thoughts

These problems can be developed, triggered and worsened by issues we face everyday such as social isolation, exclusion, rejection, discrimination and abuse.

Such a unique and meaningful wedding day. This wonderful couple decided to have their wedding their way instead of being bound by tradition. The guests were made to feel as if they were on a plane and the couple carried a suitcase full of their hobbies, their fears and their feelings as a metaphor to the start of their journey as a married couple 🤵💗🤵
The couple also included a small ladybug 🐞 which represented all the people who have fought for LGBTQ+ rights, for respect and a normal life. A beautiful gesture! A very emotional wedding - congratulations!

-Alex Neil 🏳️‍🌈On 27 June 2013, the Scottish Government introduced the Marriage and Civil Partnerships Bill (Scotland) to the Scottish Parliament. On that day Alex Neil, the then Health Secretary of Scotland said "A marriage is about love, not gender. And that is the guiding principle at the heart of this Bill.”
On 4 February 2014, the Scottish Parliament held its final reading on the bill to permit same-s*x marriages. The bill passed by a vote of 108–15 and received royal assent on 12 March 2014. Joining England & Wales that had passed the Marriage (Same S*x Couples) Act 2013 in July 2013.
Same-s*x marriage in Northern Ireland however, only became legal on 13 January 2020, following the enactment of the Northern Ireland (Executive Formation etc) Act 2019. The first marriage ceremony took place on 11 February 2020.
We wish the same for every country across the globe 🌍and most importantly we wish every culture to catch up with legislation, so that it’s not just legal to marry who you love, but SAFE too ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤
