Our Story

Falling in Love at a Coffee Shop

It all began in 2016. Lissy was renting kitchen space from a new coffee shop for her small baking business and D.J. started a job as a barista at said coffee shop. D.J. began to develop his latte art skills in an attempt to impress Lissy, it worked. They took a road trip to Brooklyn and felt inspired by the craft coffee culture, and all that comes with it. This marked the beginning of their dreams of owning a coffee company together. In March 2018, they got married.

Frank Beginnings

In the Summer of 2019 they started making an effort to bring that dream to life. D.J. had now been working in the coffee industry for a few years and it was time to start something on his own. Frank Espresso was created to be a mobile coffee experience that offers handcrafted espresso based drinks using ethically sourced ingredients.

Frank is Lissy’s Pop-Pop’s name, a loving Italian man who embodied generosity and servanthood, and also happened to start every morning with a cup of coffee. The name is both a commitment to his legacy of hospitality, and a reminder to be sincere - to be Frank.

Currently...

We are serving out of a renovated horse trailer turned pop-up shop created by the LeRoy French Flowers team, and we are in the process of building out a cart that can be rolled into various spaces for all kinds of events. Keep an eye out on social media to find out where we will be next! We are proudly using coffee roasted by Lost Sock in Washington, DC.

Future Hopes + Dreams

As we set-out to have a business that is marked by transparency and kindness, we can’t help but to dream of what it may someday become. From the very beginning, we have desired to build something that influences the lives of others positively. The correlation of substance use, incarceration, and foster care has caught our attention. Our goal is to have a brick and mortar shop and we hope to build a company that can provide tangible aid to those who are affected by these issues in some way. In the meantime, we are focused on learning a lot and establishing a successful business. We hope that you will follow along this journey with us!
